I felt like I was living on the stuff for a while the year before last, because of recurring urinary tract infections (several bloody, acute ones, very painful!). They are very rare in men, and I probably had six in a year.
The doctors never did figure out what what going on despite a looksie inside and many, many tests, but it seemed to go away after I cut back on the bareback anal.
I always travel with a two-weeks supply now, just in case.

Another thing I find odd is the name of the thing "acute uncomplicated." Acute sounds like something very serious to me. However, it is uncomplicated. Is that like an "extreme simple" infection, as opposed to a "mild complicated" one?

Every prescription medication has a list of frightening, possible side-effects. What about Viagra and Cialis? Death by priapism would certainly be unfortunate.
You are absolutely right, though--there are many possible side-effects, and you should get your medical advice from a MD, not some guy named Buttman on an internet forum.
Personally, I have had absolutely no adverse side-effects from Cipro. The only side-effect I've noticed is that my mouth never felt cleaner while on Cipro. And my nipples generated lots of milk, but that's it.
While in Bangkok, I take Cipro to help minimize my chances of getting some sort of urinary track infection, such as gonorrhea from getting bare-back blowjobs. It also helps prevent conjunctivitis and bacterial food poisoning. I take it for two weeks, then I stop. I'd rather be a bit pro-active, rather than wait for my cock to catch on fire and piss lava for two weeks. So far it has worked.
From what I understand, there is some danger when you take Cipro on a daily basis for a long period of time. Your body's immune system will begin to rely on it.
