Not an expert on this subject by any means but read the comment about the failure rate being around 1%. I would tend to agree but I have had some terrible experiences with Durex Avanti (polyurethane non latex condom).
Almost every time I have tried to use I have ended up breaking, and I am not John Holmes by any means.
This is a real shame (the condoms, not the size although now I think about it...) since I am a little alergic to latex and Avanti tend to feel better.

Are you sure you're allergic to the latex and not something else on the condoms? I don't know what latex brands you tried before but a little careful observation and experimentation might prove the culprit to be a particular manufacturer's talc or a certain type of lube.
Dunno why Avantis might be more easy to break. Are you buying them in the same place every time? Check the expiry date as they may have an old lot or some that were stored at a hostile temperature. Did you use additional lube that might cause them to fail?
(Sorry in my longwinded post earlier I said silicone when I meant polyurethane. I stoopid.)

Thanks for the tip VJ, will experiment more in future.
I think the polyurethane is the problem with avantis, the material just doesnt seem to be as flexible, had the same problem with different batches bought in different places (even different countries).
Just seems to be a problem with this brand, never tried any other non latex.
