Loss of night vision could also be an indication of other disorders. You might want to have it checked out. When did you have your last eye exam? How old are you? Harry

I had laser vision correction done here in the states about 7 weeks ago. My step father is one of the engineers for the company that makes the best lasers for LASIK surgery on the market. He has a very close relationship with the doctors and I ended up getting my surgery done pro bono (he normally charges $2600 per eye) by the best doctor in the country. The doctor I went to authored the test that all other doctors have to take and pass before they can be certified to give the surgery. The surgery itself is pretty simple and absolutely painless. I can't stress enough how important it is not to go to some doctor where you will get some sort of special deal. The equipment used matters! My step-father swears by the technology, and I can attest to the results. I now have 20/12 vision and couldn't be happier without having to wear contacts or glasses. Now the company my step-father works for is VISX. They make best lasers for this surgery and their website can be found here: http://www.visx.com. For information about getting it done in the US, try this link http://www.visx.com/laser/index_frame.php?section=centerdoc Lots of information on both of these sites. VISX uses Wave Scan technology, a copy of this information I've provided to you here: The Fingerprint Of Your Vision™ Your vision is unique as personal as your fingerprint or your DNA. The Wave Scan Wavefront System provides your eye doctor with a WavePrint Map. The WavePrint™ Map Now, for the first time, the WavePrint Map provides information on more than just the corneal surface of your eye. It reveals the way your entire optical system processes light. The WavePrint Map provides a new level of diagnostic information previously unavailable to the doctor. Using this information, your doctor can: Accurately assess whether you're a good candidate for laser vision correction. Anyone who is considering laser vision correction should obtain a WavePrint Map as the first step. Along with the other diagnostic tests that your doctor performs, a personalized treatment plan can then be developed to address your unique vision needs. The WavePrint Map: From the cosmos to your eye doctor's office The WavePrint Map is derived from technology first developed to correct distortions of light waves from space. This allowed researchers to accurately view images of stars and planets. The WavePrint Map uses the same technology to measure light waves as they travel through your eye. This technology provides a precise and more detailed analysis of your vision. Lastly, just make sure that whatever place you go to in Thailand uses a VISX laser, and is VISX certified. As always, the quality of the doctor matters as well. Just because they can pass the test, doesn't mean they are always careful. I've heard some horror stories from my doctor about the things that have happened because of carelessness. Going blind being the worst of the results, but that's bad enough. Just my two satang on the matter...

2 things to consider: 1) Prices for this type of surgery is coming down all over the world, so the savings of having it sone in BKK may not be that great 2) All followup exams, additional surgery and problems will be included in the cost of the surgery, so you will have to be in BKK for the 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months and 1 yr followup exams. Or you can pay your home optometrist/Ophthalmologist to do your checkups. ...Come to think about it, thats a perfect excuse to be in BKK often...

I'm picking up this thread. I have been considering going to Hungary to get this done, but get it done in Bangkok with the additional fun, well... Any updates on the cost? My last check here in Norway: 180000 baht for both eyes, so 30000 baht per eye is a considerable save is quality is up to standards.

I guess this is the first blow that is telling me I am no longer a young buck. Loss of night vision could also be an indication of other disorders. You might want to have it checked out. Like your MOM said too much masturbation will make you go blind. A good pecker check at the clinic will do wonders about that rash with raised bumps down there. Don't ever rub your eyes after sex either it will lead to conjunktiveitis like ROCKY had.

I read on the http://www.today about a treatment called,'Conductive Keratoplasty', it is for people mainly over 45 years of age who need reading glasses. I believe it is known as CK, and the treatment is about 2 years old. Anyone have any experience of this treatment or can add any further info? I just need glasses for reading so it may be what I am looking for. TIA

Gus CK is using Radiofrequency RF energy to create burns on the mid preriphery cornea. This burn supposedly create mutifocal plane on the corneal surface thus help with the presbyopia. CK is only good for a small percentage of patients, the best candidate is a patient over 40 and have presbyopia and patient have to be hyperopia. CK is still a relative new procedure. Even in US, there are still many refractive surgeon does not offer CK because of small patient popualtion which CK is good for. If you fit the profile for Ck, then it might be an choice you could consider.

erikE, Been going to the same eye Dr. for about 15 years and asked last time (Feb) about laser surgery. His response was, he personally didn't want anyone using a laser on his own eyes. He is an Amercian MD. He said there is no evidence of problems but he just didn't like the idea. He has several DR. colleagues who are leaders in the field and he would recommend them to me if I wanted. But I have to admit, I just don't like the idea even tho I might give up wearing binoculars. IMO, don't do this fbased on the price. Make sure who ever is holding the laser was not out doing tequila tittie shooters with the rest of us on Soi Cowboy the night before the procedure!
