Many thanks for your two eccelent post answering my questions, I'm waiting to see if there are any changes before booking up a BKK trip, I'll give it another week. The SARS problem is getting bad here in Taiwan, but I'm glad to say my company and friends are taking it very serously. I take my temp before leaving for work each morning and it's checked and recorded again in the office, all visitors are checked on arrival and are held in a set aside room, if they dont have a mask there issued one. All visits to/from our Head Office Taipei and Reginal offices is kept to a minimum. All offices are disenfected twice a week and we can spray our personal areas when ever we want, masks etc are freely available. Taipei is where most of the reported cases are, I live about 45klm S of the City. luckely for us the airport is between us and the city, so we never need to go near Taipei. Many thanks again.

expat67 , Sorry for the delayed response . The check-up per se did not take very long - but the administrative procedures ( especially if it is your first time at any hospital ) do take a bit of time . The check-up consists of your weight , temperature and B.P. being recorded and based on this data the doctor then asks you stupid questions like "How are you feeling today ?" , "Do you have any temperature ?", "Do you have a cough ?" , etc. after which he listens to your heart and lungs with a stethoscope and then enters his comments and signs off in your Green Book . Then you go through the payment procedure . All in all I would say that the whole process took about 15 minutes .

Arramsey, I would also like to express my appreciation to your detailed information. Other than that, please do not mind 2 more follow-up questions: (1) So during those 3-days-apart checkups, does any doctor ask you if you have visited any MP or GoGo bar or that sort of question? (2) ( I assume you have), do you see any mild panic or resistance of the girls to receive certain customers due to the fear of SARS infection in the entertainment area (MP, gogo bar....)?

Cat Woods , In answer to your queries :- (1) No . During the 2nd. , 5th. , & 8th. day check-ups no doctor has ever asked me about any of my activities & definitely not if I have visited any MP's . Go-Go Bars , etc. (2) Because of the very sharp drop in business , I have found that the girls in the MP's , etc. don't really bother where you have come from or whether you have SARS or not . However for your own safety please take precautions - after all the girl you fraternise with might have done the same with other SARS infected persons .

Bros, I'm from Canada, coming in next week, and was wondering If there is any UPDATED info about the procedures at BKK. If I'm clear on things, they will check me out at the airport, no problem there. But will I still have to get regular check ups, every 3 or 5 days, while in BKK? If this is the case, does anyone know where to get these done near the JW at Nana? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Quote: from Arramsey on 12:22 am on May 20, 2003 The Green Book gives a brief on the SARS epidemic and explains why the procedures are being implemented . It also instructs the passenger to get checked up by a licenced doctor on the 2nd. , 5th. & 10th. days after arrival which the doctor has to record in the Green Book in the pages provided . If the passenger OR the doctor notice any SARS symptoms (detailed in the book) showing up within these 10 days then the passenger MUST be Hospitalised and the Health Ministry informed. NOTE : If the passenger chooses to be irresponsible and NOT have the checks done he/she could get into very serious trouble if for some reason or the other the passenger's passport has to be seen by any Thai official and they see that the checks have not been done on the days specified .
first, i hope that the procedures and handling of SARS is still the same at this time of my post. pls may i shed some light here. i was in LOS on the 19 May -1 June. i think it is not compulsory to see the doctor on the 2th, 5th and 8th day during yr stay in LOS. if u read the text on the Green Booklet, it suggest u do so, but not compulsory. thats what i thought so in the first place!! a call the the Hotline cleared my doubts, heres what they meant: u are advised to see the doctor for the SARS checkup, but if u choose not to, then u have to wear a mask for 10 days. all u have to do is to keep track of yr body temperature (i did this) and observe other symntoms of SARS. if u don have a fever, dry cough or body aches (not from Boom Boom) then u are fine!! hope this helps. btw....i did not wear any mask regards, chrisboy
