No MSB, AIDS is not a myth, an Acquired Immune Deficiency syndrome condition has always caused death in Human populations and has always been especially prevalent in Africa, only the actualy given name of AIDS came with the "discovery" of HIV.
Although I do believe now the official definition of AIDS requires an HIV + test result.
What some scientists choose to debate is whether the HIV virus is a myth and whether this HIV virus causes AIDS. But whatever is the truth, you certainly do not catch AIDS.
