Traveled with a good friend recently that had a fear of flying. Actually, he said its a fear of control and if he were the one to fly the plane then he would have no problem.
To alleviate this fear he took 2 Xanax and 30 small bottles of wine in a 14 hour period of time. When we got to Japan, he would walk right into food stands and start filling his pockets and backpack with food. Needless to say, by the last leg of the flight an airhostess threaten to have the police waiting on the ground in Bangkok when we landed. I've never seen him act that way before and since the flight. It was like a drunk that had zero fear of anything.
Xanax with alcohol can make a ugly situation.

Well, as a several years user of Xanax, i'll add that I'm pretty satisfied with the effects, that when I tried I could hook off the product but soon after chose to get back to it. For the same reason I used in the first place: makes it easier to sleep and to adapt to adjust own's rithm.
U know why big sane boy we do drugs and alcohol? Coz we like the effects.
Besides, about Skip's small yellow pills, pretty sure I tried them. Useless in my case, it must work if you're not used to heavier drugs.
And yes Xanax and alcohol are a risky mix, wonder wether that was the combo downed by that british official who went nuts on a flight out of BKK...

*any* anti-depressants and alcohol are a potentially explosive mix (see quack quack's excellent post in that regard), mostly because the results are not as obvious as a 'buzz' but have mood, and behavior altering effects, paired with memory loss (in extreme cases).
The British diplomat was on Seroxant, and had recently doubled the dosage before he boarded the flight and went berserk after several bottles of wine - most like (speculating here) the same amount of alcohol would have had less effect under his prior dosage, but the higher dosage, paired with the alcohol, resulted in behavior that increased the alcohol ingestion (probably because "he liked it" the way it made him feel), culminating in irritability, lack of inhibitions, and finally rage.
I wonder if formen's buddy had trouble remembering his behavior as well.
That's why when folks like yourself, or Mel are starting to lecture me on how well they can handle their drug interactions, or how "we like the effects", all you're gonna earn is a wry smile and a cynical "uh-huh.." - I'd just hope that some people will take away some knowledge valuable to them (particularly from quack quack's post, that gives some really good information, as well as alternatives.)
Though, I do sympathize with your feelings, and I'd like to apologize for the cardinal sin of being smarter... Now, go ahead, pop some pills to sleep better, why don'tcha...?

Daffy,
You're right. He said that he remembered popping the pills during the first hour of the flight, then everything went black. The next thing he remembered was waking up with two girls in his bed in LOS. A day and a half later!
I asked him about this again and he said that he must have taken 8 pills. I told him that he gave a Japanese guy next to us one, but he didnt remember that. So 7 pills and 30 small bottles of wine should do it.

I see again you're the guy judging his own intelligence... sure u know what we say about flaunting one own's intelligence... now let me recall : U don't drink, don't overdindulge in medecines/drugs, don't have sex without condom... you might even focus on saving hard to be able to come to thailand twice a year... is it beeing outstandingly smart that deprives you of so obvious life pleasures??

With all due respect, Daffy, AP just drove home a point: you might just be preaching to the choir here. There are- and you ought to acknowledge this- some folks who are hell bent on marching to a tune other than your own. Period.
And AP is one of 'em. Like Mister Gonzo himself- Hunter S., who genuinely meant it when he said with that wry smile, "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone....but they've always worked for me."

Some things have been mixed up there:
While I might morally support international wholesale trade of any goods, including women and hard drugs, while I might as well turn a cuddling eye to dicatorships, slavery, wars and first class air travel, I actually only enjoy a few of those elements, and by all means consider the Xanax/alcohol combo a nefarious mix. Only happens to me during the 30 mns from popping a blue pill to falling asleep, if I happen to be drunk at that time. Sure those 30mns happened to be weird. Not adviced.
Yet, what has anal sex to do with that? Taking new young China girl to the VIP lounge of some very hip parisian club tomorrow and do certainly hope anal will be in the after hours menu. But will settle for much less... blow big bucks and bang small time... that's a typical misery when living in wealthy western democracies...
Besides Quack much of what you say does make sense, and the argument abt it would likely come down to a clash of moral values.
But hard drugs use is a complicated issue, and ultimately one of individual freedom and expectations IMO. I'm out of them mostly coz they wouldn't fit in my professionnal agenda, but would reconsider some of them for the awesome mind alterations they procure upon retirement or a lighter schedule. Kinda suspect the world owes way more to doctor Hoffmann (who recently celebrated his hundredth birthday) and William Burroughs (who lived well into his eighties) than to mother Theresa and obviously Daffy.
But that's OK:

That's one of the funniest quotes I can remember of.. Unfortunately too long to fit as a sig on the forum when I tried a while back
