I go to Bum....Hospital on Soi 3...A normal filling cost me 1600 Baht (30 min work)

A special big one (in my rear tooth) that took him 70 mins to do cost me 3000 Baht.

I sent them an e-mail with pic's attached (God I love these digital cameras) asking about replacing my old amalgam with composite * 4. Nice polite reply just now with these prices:

LL 5&7: 2,100 – 2,500 Baht**
UL 5: 2,100 Baht**
UR 6 (huge one) : 2,500 – 3,000 Baht**

You can make an appointment online. If you want to finish everything in 1 visit, please make 1½ hours appointment for 4 cavities.
----------------------------------------------------
So I figure ~10,000 baht which is not cheap to me. A Thai lady I know (lives up north) pays about 200 for each filling she told me. Not sure now if I should spring for this, forget it and just enjoy the holiday or try the other places mentioned, F.

Had a good experience at the Dental Hospital, Sukhumwit Soi 49. Easy to find, professional care, friendly staff.

I ended up evading getting the crown that my US dentist wanted to do, and essentially ended up getting 2 fillings in my rear molar, and one amalgam filling replaced with a composite filling in that same tooth (it's my only tooth with cavity in my mouth).

Also, had a panoramic x-ray and detail x-ray done prior.

x-rays (1 x panoramic, 1 x detail) - 1,300 Bt
3 fillings - 2,000 Bt

Been very satisfied.

Inci-dentally (!) when I've had fillings in Bkk over the past year or so I've noticed that the dentist hasn't seen fit to jab me with a needle first. There was very little or no discomfort from the drillin' so does that mean they're usin' some extra-high speed drills or what?

Did your dentist give you an injection to numb the area first?

Cheers

Brack. It has to do with how close to the nerve the drilling will be. Trust me - if the dentist thinks he is coming anywhere near a nerve you will get the Stainless Steel "horse" hypo.

Daffy's prices come out to about 600 baht or US $15 per filling. Yet another reason I love living here. I have 2 crowns - one with root canal & one without. One very expensive ($500 US) & one not (5500 baht). PM me for a referral. Bum Run Grad is expensive.

That's why I save up all my medical issues for each trip, and just in medical costs the trips pretty much pay for themselves - fortunately, I have hardly any medical 'needs', so I'm stretching them out into issues of convenience, pure vanity, and pro-active maintenance -- all of which would cost $$$ back in the US, because it is all counted as 'elective'.

Savings are even better if your needs are more major, which is pretty much what I am preaching to my friends (yes, I do have 'friends') back home to help save them $$$ they would be spending on dental work, or electives like liposuction, or plastic surgery. Some are listening, some still believe that they will be treated by witch doctors with a bone through their nose

Latrell

I definitely recommend Bumrungrad Hospital between Sukhumvit Soi1-3.
A bit pricy for Thailand but top-end premisses and professional service.

See http://www.bumrungrad.com

I paid 1300THB for dental check-up with cleaning&polishing (18 GBP).

Latrell - you overpaid by a factor of 3. I have a periodontist who cleans mine - every 4 months - cost? 600 baht.
