I was talking about this with one of my pub mates yesterday and I was reminded by the pub's manager why this started in the first place.
California was one of the first areas to institute a total smoking ban in the early 90's. The group that initiated the ban proposal was the Restaurant Worker's Union.
The issue that no one seems to remember is that a non-smoking bartender, waitress, or club manager can not make the choice not to show up for work or stand outside; the smoker can...

Well just back from some 5-Star hotels in Thailand. Effective tomorrow there will not be any smoking rooms any more. To smoke you will need to go outside.

If it's smoked indoors perhaps. No problems with Shishas outside Bamboo Bar.

You mean to say "The issue that NO SMOKERS seem to remember..."
It's usually the smokers who don't really care about other having to inhale their foul stench, so in that regard, I very much welcome to smoking ban in establishments - it will certainly make going out at night far more pleasurable.
Anyway, on a tangent, I often get the impression that less people in Thailand smoke, than in surrounding Asian countries -- Japan is worst, in terms of them puffing everywhere, I hear. China the same, it's the last great holdout for the RJ Reynolds company. As such, Thailand had always pleasantly surprised me, to see how few people, particularly the girls, smoked (and then usually it's bar girls). Anyone else observed that?

I did ask a bar girl in Bangkok if she smoked after intercourse and she confessed that she had never looked.
A lot of smokers in Hong Kong and the ban on smoking in restaurants is gradually being phased in. After some initial grumblings the fuss has died down.

A friend of mine went into Long Gun last night... appeared no one was smoking there.
Later we went into Apache. Same thing... none of the customers or staff was seen smoking.... all ashtrays were removed.

Where is outside though ? most bars in patty are open bars so if I put my stool on the edge of the bar and put one foot on the pavement im outside right  .

On one of the few times I put time and effort into shagging normal girls I found out that the non smoking women only could smoke at home when family were not there + drink as she said society would not allow it. She smoked like a trooper I can tell ya  , for bar girls its ok they can do what they like. This is also the norm in many african countries only prostitutes have tatoo and smoke...... frowned upon an all that its only in the western world that fat arsed sheelas smoke and pretend to be men. Everywhere else they are still reminded they are women and should behave as such thank Oden

cheapcharlie - dude I have that shirt ISSM! I also stopped smoking last year and have turned into a bigger fat bastard than I ever thought possible.
I freaking hate smokers now and will avoid at all costs - I will not bf a smoking gal - (f-me that didnt come out right) ?
ANYWAY the point is im drun k and I forgotg the point.
