This is the exact stupidity I am talking about,,,,absolute lies, bull-shit / crap.
Lets pull this idiosy apart with logic and FACTS,,,,"the non-smoking barttender,waitress or club manager has no choice". ROFLMAO,,,what a load of CRAP. Firstly they can CHOOSE whether to take the job or select another.
They COULD choose to work in a non-smoking environment ( hospital). No-one is FORCING them to work there.
I could go on..,,,,but remember there are ONLY 3 things you HAVE to do,,,
1) be born (or you don't exist)
2) Take up space (Physicsdemands this)
3) Die.
EVERYTHING else is a choice,,,choice - consequence - result.
I'm sick of this,I HAD to,,,, I HAD to lie,,,I HAD to take this job,I HAD to stay in the marriage, I HAD to argue,I HAD to I HAD to breath the smoke,,,it is a cop-out for pussies.The I HAD to, removes responsibility for your actions / decisions,,Other than the 3 HAVE to's mentioned all other's are "you CHOSE",yes,YES,you...YOU selected to do that.
Stop coping out and running from your decisions and blaming "Mr Had to",, time to grow up a little.

And you Mel can choose to drink outside and smoke or drink at the bar and not smoke. As this is their livelihood and it is what pays their rent and puts the food on the table, I am afraid they have a stronger case than you do Mel.
A few facts now Mel. In most of the world you are the minority and as most societies go on majority rule I guess you are shit out of luck, aren't you.
And talking about choices, you were not forced to start smoking, you chose it. Now you have another choice, either quit or smoke outside. How is that for choices Mel?
And here is a HAD for you. Mel had to smoke outside. I am tired of hearing smokers complaing of what they HAD to do.
But the problem is that you only care for yourself. If you cared for the people working in that bar you would quit whinging and take your bloody fag outside.
But then again you are basically a selfish bastard aren't you...

I smoked for 30 years and stopped 16 years ago, when my x-wife was pregnant with my daughter. I had the sense and will power to stop cold, without benefit of patches, counselling or any other artificial aid.
For the sake of that new born daughter, you should also have the same will power and fortitude.
Don't give us any more excuses or alibis about your weakness. If you love that baby and your other children you will stop. Nothing less will help them live a smoke free life.
You now have a choice. Unfortunately your children do not have the same choice. You need to seriously assess your situation with your family and forget this nonsense about smoking in bars.
Do you have the will power to do what is right for them?

expatchuck,,,my smoking has nil effect on my children, I have not smoked indoors or in a car with others for decades.

Actually no it would not Mel.
Which bars get to be smoking bars? How about fairness of competition laws? Who will get the brass-ring?
All of these issues have been considered by all of the jurisdictions that have introduced non-smoking policies since California started it in 1991 (that is 17 years of experience Mel). Every jurisdiction has come down firmly on the 'all or none' policy. It is the only way that all the bars and restaurants can remain on a 'level playing field.'
Here in the UK we are having an exceptionally cold and wet winter and the smokers are smoking out on the patio, not in the pubs.
Count you blessings Mel, at least you can stand outside and smoke without having to wear a yammuka...

That also begs the question, why are you so upset about not being able to smoke in a bar?
If you think it is bad for your family and friends, why do you think it is acceptable to exhale second hand smoke on strangers?

Mel, for me your hitting it right on the nail....all about choice.....if you don't like the second hand smoke, why don't YOU go outside or to another bar.....oh yeah, you can't because they're all smoking bars, hmmm, but we're in the minority yet all of the bars are full of smokers ?
Mel touched on it, China Sailor poopoo'ed it, but it's something I feel is totally fair.....let the bar decide, thats right, god forbid allowing someone a choice, but why not, why not let the bars decide whether they will go for smoking or not ? Very simple, big stickers on a door indicating whether smoking is allowed or not, that way us smokers can goto bars and smoke, and you non smokers can goto bars and be out of the smoke, likewise these poor soles who are forced to work in smoke filled bars (uhm!) can choose to work in a non smoking bar....wow imagine that, the right to choose, a win for all, amazing, so simple. I guess the only downside with this idea is that evenutually all bars would switch back to being smoking bars, after a decline in revenues.
Incidentally, I am totally for no smoking in restaurants or places where food is served, totally agree, eating something whilst someone is smoking is not nice, fully accept that one. But drinking a beer in a bar....geez.
I also fail to see why Mel is selfish, because he chose to smoke ? if you don't like second hand smoke then don't hang around Mel, why does Mel have to change his way of life to please yours ?
And lets be honest about this, smoking will continue to be allowed throughout the whole of Thailand, it won't be stopped, it will probably be stopped in the western orientated bars, and RCA and ratchada areas, but outside of them, puff away, bit like the 2am closing enforcement.
