Couldn't agree more, why should anyone have to go out of their way to accomodate someone else ? (meant solely in the spirit of the smoking ban discussion guys).
I accept the ban is in place, I have no intention of pretending any influence can be exerted to control its enforcement, I must now accept that and make suitable adjustments, such is this life.
But despite all the chat on this thread, nobody has offered a single reason as to why this idea might not work.... despite being at opposite ends of the cigarette can some of you at least not agree that in principle this idea might be suitable for everyone !?!?
.....let the bar decide, thats right, god forbid allowing someone a choice, but why not, why not let the bars decide whether they will go for smoking or not ? Very simple, big stickers on a door indicating whether smoking is allowed or not, that way us smokers can goto bars and smoke, and you non smokers can goto bars and be out of the smoke, likewise these poor soles who are forced to work in smoke filled bars (uhm!) can choose to work in a non smoking bar....

I will speculate that it's an issue of enforcement - while such a system might work in the west (albeit, even here the law states it's absolute), consider the law enforcement situation in LOS -- it's easy for the local constabulary to enforce a law when it applies universally (i.e. whoever smokes in a bar breaks the law), but if it ends up being arbitrary, a clusterphuck is sure to ensue.
Not that this won't be the case anyway, albeit in the case of the smoking ban, there's more advantages to the bar to hide behind compliance, than to violate it, or skirt around it. What I'm trying to say is that a bar has more to gain to violate the 'no nudity' law (i.e. attracting more customers, even if it means paying bribes to stay safe), yet very little, to any gain can be expected from a bar violating the no-smoking ban (as long as there's nude girls on stage).
As a bar owner, I certainly would see the obvious advantages - less filth, less holes burnt in seats and carpets, less stink in the bar, and less needs for a well-working ventilation system - accommodating smokers costs a bar money, without bringing with it any tangible advantage.
Accommodating drinkers, on the other hand, results in higher revenue, on multiple fronts (including barfines for ugly girls) ; same with having girls show nudity - so a business case can be made in either case.
Accommodating smokers, IMO, brings no such advantages with it.
Like I said, this is mostly speculation.

I'm sorry Meatywsg, but that's bull (with all due respect). If THIS is accepted, how long until you will find Bars having Stickers against Blacks? Arabs? Chinese? god forbid, even French? after all, if the bar is to discriminate on the Smokers/non-smokers, what's to stop them from discriminating on something else?

Brother Nic, the bars already do discriminate in these areas, they just don't have the stickers out front 
The law is the law, i'm fully compliant with it, it's accepted, I just feel there are alternative ways of pleasing everyone...well, I guess someone will always be less pleased than someone else but outright bans just seem too harsh ! Anyway, it's a dead subject, the ban is in place we must comply...end of really.
On the plus side, during an excursion to the fun palaces last week, I smoked considerably less than normal, and I did find the bars much brighter and clearer, but boy did the bad smell of the toilets seem overwhelming, I guess thats one thing us smokers did, disguised the bad smell of the toilets with our smoke !!! Bar owners take note, more air freshner is now required.
