Found this interesting, so, the question is, would you spend all that money on a therapist or spend it all in LOS?
NEW YORK - SEX addiction isn't just a problem for Tiger Woods - it's big business for clinics claiming to offer treatment. The planet's best golfer is far from the first celebrity to go into sex rehab, but he's probably the biggest and his case has helped thrust the idea of sex addiction as a serious disease into the spotlight. Speaking Friday in a live televised apology for his multiple extra-marital affairs with cocktail waitresses, nightclub hostesses and a porn film actress, Woods said he had already received 45 days of 'guidance' at a clinic. On Saturday, he's heading back for more. Despite a certain amount of skepticism from the public about sex addiction, professionals in the field say it is comparable to alcoholism and not just an excuse for philanderers. 'A figure like Woods has drawn a lot of attention to the issue but I have dealt with that for years,' said Craig Gross, a sex addiction expert and author of several books on the matter. 'A lot of relations are in shambles because of that. It is a growing issue that many more people than we can imagine are dealing with.' Gross said treatment in a clinic similar to the Pine Grove facility in Mississippi used by Woods costs between US$20,000 (S$28,000) and US$40,000 for a six-week course. 'I've had various clients going to the sex addiction clinics and never heard about one of them having to make a public apology as part of the treatment.' Gross said the public confession was a success. 'His statement showed clearly that there are things that he learned. He was believable and sincere.'

Well BK, my answer to your question is obvious, but as to that, I am certain you had no doubt. I just wanted to add my two satang that I do not believe that Tiger has "learned" any lessons, or changed his stripes one bit, in terms of his sex addiction. What he may have learned is that even he is not untouchable, and if he wants to keep on earning even a fraction of what he was earning before his "fall from grace," well, he better bow down every so awfully low to the moralists and puritans, and express his contrition in as heartfelt, albeit, highly orchestrated a way as he can possibly afford. And what better way to demonstrate the seriousness of your contrition for your wayward ways than to spend some serious money and, more importantly, time, in a rehab clinic. Hallelujah, oh hallelujah. He'll make it back, back to the golf course of course, and back to making lots and lots of money. But he will also, no doubt about it, make it back to the mound that he cannot stand to stay away from. Because he is, and always will be, a sex addict. http://www.theonion.com/content/news/tiger_woods_announces_return_to

Years ago, one if my friends was in a private clinic getting treatment for alcohol addiction. Staying in the same clinic was a girl being treated for, you guessed it, sex addiction. At the time, the thought of a girl being treated for sex addiction - was f'ing erotic - it really turned me on. I would love to know how you can actually treat someone for sex addiction - it's the most natural urge to the human species.... well to me anyway !

I have never understood what is addiction to sex. I can see what is meant by addiction to tobacco or drugs : when your system cannot do without that substance. But sex is a necessity -- like food or water or love -- that no living creature (animal, human or plant) can do without. Just that people have different degrees of "addiction." Either treat them all or let them have sex as much as each pleases, without persecution. I guess it is the married man that lands in trouble because, in his case, sex addiction would be largely identified by his desire to chase different women rather than just his wife Wonder if any wife would seriously accuse her husband of sex addiction if he wooed and courted her like a lover everyday. Methinks not.

My two favorite anecdotes about the recent coverage of (read, "obsession with" here in the U.S.) the Tiger "apology" for cheating on his wife: The French ran a short blurb stating that Tiger Woods had announced that he would be returning to golf, but did not specify when. No mention of any apology or extramarital affairs. The Dali Lama, when asked (at a press conference during his U.S. visit) what he thought of Tiger's apology, replied, "Who is Tiger Woods?"

I'm sorry, but why do we label a man's natural desire to want to have sex with a woman when it is available to him, as 'sex addiction'??????

I'd wish to say that the Dalai Lama has 'perspective', but he most likely doesn't really know who Tiger Woods is -- because there are far more real problems in the word, than some young guy who likes to have sex. Brilliant!

Guys what... this is a bit shallow here... Of course there is something like >sex addiction<...and that is not the natural desire we all have, but something that goes far beyond... Yep, the idea of a nymphomanic girl makes me horny right on the spot too... sure, we're all dogs... sniff sniff... But nevertheless this desire *can* reach a state of desease - for men and for women... That state is reached when the desire occupies the whole personality and brings it out of balance... There are people who spend a huge part of their lifes watching porn on the net, may it be in the office or at home... and they loose their jobs because of this.. out of balance, you see... that is just sick... Maybe this is a touchy topic here because we're all borderliners in said matter...

QQ Here's a technical point, maybe : is there any documented evidence that the "holy" priest did not indulge in masturbation to release his urge ? It seems difficult to me to believe that, as a male born with a penis, he never felt the need for sex. Same with the non-alpha males in your animal kingdom. (Heck, do animals masturbate ?) I have seen dogs masturbating by mimicking the sex act without actually penetrating. Maybe they hesitated because of hierarchy or protocol difficulties among their peers. Daffy's post refers to "sex desire" which is a common enough term and one that might be used to argue that sex is a desire and not a necessity. But science tells us that the body manufactures sex fluids, or eggs, which it must eject cylically. Hence my contention that it is a necessity. The need to complete this cycle manifests as desire or urge to have sex, or to masturbate if one cannot have sex. Much like hunger or thirst manifests as taste or craving. Such craving differs from person to person, just like some people are great foodies, while some others are not (but both need to eat). Like Quim I believe that a tiger cannot change its stripes. People who love their so-called addiction to sex (or to any other pursuit) will never agree to be treated or to give it up. MTK, Agreed that addiction is when that "state is reached when the desire occupies the whole personality" and people get so obsessive with the pursuit that they jeopardise other necessities in their individual lives such as job, family, health, etc. My question is this: Tobacco kills, drink kills, drug kills. Does sex kill in the same sense?

well, obviously not... sex doens't really harm your body, does it? Even excessive sex will turn out as good exercise on the long run... yes, we've heared of bruises, but you can get this from any kind of sport, don't ye?!? And like with all sport it's just that you die healthier, not later... or earlier for that matter...
