didn't see this in another thread, so...
I live in a middle eastern country where it is necessary to have a doctor's prescription (like an actual document) to bring in a 'controlled' substance, ie valium, ambien, xanax, etc.
I want to pick up some necessary meds while in BKK, so can anybody suggest a clinic/ hospital that is convenient to the entertainment areas where I'll be staying, or let me know if this is even possible for a short time visitor? Also, info about cost of visiting a doctor would be helpful.
Any help is much appreciated

I've started to post an answer a couple of times...
Why not just get a prescription in your HOME country? Presumably, you have a doc there who actually understands your NEED all those psychoactive substances...
Getting a prescription for actual medical need in BKK is cheap, and a snap. Convincing a strange doctor that you need all that stuff, may NOT be so easy - or cheap.
There may be some dodgy sorts around who can be persuaded, but I have no experience there.
No offense meant, but a couple of months in BKK is a GREAT replacement for all sorts of anti-anxiety meds, and the proper SORT of exercise, along with a warm TG in your bed, will make you sleep like a baby...
As a point of interest, is Ambien available at all in BKK? I find it a good occasional med, and usually have some around. It is REALLY expensive, though, without insurance, and not widely available. Please let us know what you discover.

I don't know much about controlled substances. I like your suggestion of using 'natural' remedies. Can't understand why people are so willing to put drugs inside their bodies (except for alcohol, that's acceptable!).

I've purchased Ambien and Xanax for my older brother OTC (over the counter ) here in Bangkok. There are a couple of pharmacies around Clinton Plaza that sells them along with Tylenol with Codiene, Valium and Viagra. BTW, the some names here for drugs are different than the US i.e. Valium is diazapam and Xanax is alprazolam. Pharmacies usually have a book with the local names of the indexed with the US or European brand names.

I get terrible jet-lag going from west to east... last time I was BKK after 3 sleepless nights I walked into a doctors surgery/pharmacy, on the ground floor of MBK (entrance not inside MBK but from the outside). I was assuming I'd need to see a doc to get sleeping pills, but nope... the young girl behind the counter just asked me what I wanted, what stength, and how many. I ended up with 8 pills from the benzodiazepam family for about 200 baht. It was as simple as buying a packet of cigarettes.... but I hasten to add if you don't know what you're doing with those pills (i.e. not combining with alcohol) they can be lethal.
I agree though with the earlier comment.... if you know you are going to need certain drugs... why not bring them with you? Or bring the reapeat prescription? I know from now on I'll be taking a few sleeping tablets with me.
I've been to a dcotor a couple of times in LOS and can't actually recall the exact consultation fee. I don't think it was more than a couple of hundred baht.

OK, hold the phone...
I guess I better clarify.
1) The meds I mentioned were EXAMPLES, I'm not pumping my body full of all those things!!!
I do like getting Ambien for occaisional insomnia, or a few valium if that's not available. But I'm not a manic depressive wreck!!!!!
2) I can't get a prescrip here because I live in a Middle eastern country and will be coming directly to BKK. Besides I'm not sure a prescrip from one country would be honored in another.
I need the prescrip because people can get hassled bringing such meds into the country if they don't have any documentation. Even then they are sometimes confiscated, but at least I won't be locked up!
So I can't get the prescrip here, since they can't dispense the meds, BUT if I can get a prescrip in BKK I can bring them in with me when I return. That's my bind.
So back to my original question...does anyone know a clinic where I can rationally explain this to a rational, legitimate doctor and get a real prescription in order to cover my ass when I return to my country of residence?

You can get a prescribtion and the medicin there.
