For my upcoming trip in February (yay!) I am looking to get a bit more than the usual 1-2-call 'just a phone' SIM card, as I would like to be able to have GPRS connectivity to allow me to send and receive MultiMedia Messages (MMS), as well as directly e-mail from/to my phone. According to some research on my end, AIS provides GPRS service to both monthly, as well as pre-paid customers. What does that translate to, exactly - i.e. what cards do I need to buy, and what specific information do I need to ask for? Does anyone on this forum use GPRS services on their phones, and can share experiences? If the price difference is not significant, I'd really like to screw around with these various features to keep my peeps in California updated, and jealous of my trips Thanks, Harry

Something new to me (at least the prepaid customers) AIS' only prepaid product is 1-2-Call..... We bundled our phones with a package from DTAC (GPRS and MMS), but only on monthly basis.

Definitely not with DTAC's GPRS... it's crap. At first it was tolerable...I managed to connect at 9600 bps...and after a few times at 1200 bps, I gave up. There was an instance when it took over 5 minutes to send a 100+ byte email. That was it! I cancelled their service. A friend I know uses the AIS, GPRS. He claims to get 40,000 bps which is reasonable since it is almost similar to my modem connection speed at home. I will go for that. I am looking at this product. iTegno (www.itegno.com), which connects to your laptop (Mac or PC) via USB. It's pricey though, 12,500 B

A friend of mine (owner of a transport company and always on the move) uses ITegno. Altough pricey, it does a good job. Also the support here in Thailand is quite good. He likes it so much, he even uses GPRS at home instead of a normal dial up account...

If anyone's interested...this is the local company that distributes it. UCALL CO.,LTD. Tel. 662-617-6633 Fax. 662-617-6699 Correction, price is 12,900 B inclusive of the SIM from AIS. If I recall correctly, the rate is 1,500 B/month for the first 50 MB... can't remember how many satang for the incremental kb after that.

First of all, BK, save yourself the expense - just get a phone that has Bluetooth, a Bluetooth dongle for your Mac, and use that. The benefit is obvious - you end up getting a better phone, less cables, and more convenience. The Mac uses the BT connection as a BT-modem, ad it's all pretty much transparent. Gotta figure out the configurations, but those should be available from the carrier, or I know a few sites that carry worldwide configuration resources. I have this configuration working here with T-Mobile, and it's a blast and works like a charm. Harry

Harry, first in Thailand there not a lot of many phones on the market that support bluetooth. And if it does, it will cost you more than the ITegno. Furthermore, I don't see any reason to buy a separate phone as the Itegno is very small. Sticks on your laptop and the small USB cable is in no way a pain in the b*tt!

hzink, I did that before...it may look cool, but sometimes, I need to be on the phone and online as well, so I won't bother with that option. Besides, I am fine with my 2,000 B phone.

Aside from simply being an excuse for a techno-geek to upgrade their phone, AND getting GPRS access, many phone that I saw support bluetooth - Nokia 3650, Nokia 7650 (oldie), Nokie 6600, SonyEricsson T68, SE T610, etc... Don't know about the prices in Thailand on those, but what's the price of the InTegno thingy? Harry
