Anybody living here in Los who knows the ins and outs of computers and would be willing to help fix a problem for a beer and lunch at Gullivers ASAP.
It may be simple, it may not, but its got me f_cked so it must be simple. Anyway please advise and the sooner the better. Thanks.

Thanks, well it started a few days ago with something that I thought was nothing but an inconvenience and thought it not connected, it still may not be, but now I seem to have lost everything on my computer.
What happened was that every time I tuned into bkktonite and clicked on the various threads to read, it would come as 'cannot find' you know that page that comes up and asks you to refresh or whatever, then by either pressing the 'back' key and trying again, or 'refreshing' it would come up, but if I refreshed half the time it would not come up as well.
This started for no real apparent reason, I do not visit many internet sites and no sex sites, especially since I have had this new computer. I have had no strange popups or emails, in fact I have had no emails with attachements that I do not know the contents of.
Then last night I closed down my computer and went to start up today and I have windows xp and I have acctivated the 'user accounts' so that upon start up it asks me for a password into my user account before opening up to access everything. So I put in my password and nothing came up, my desktop was completely blank, no toolbars, icons, nothing and not one key would access anything or bring anything up.
So the only way I could get into it was to wait for the timeout to take place and the screensaver came up, then try to access again but this time through a 'visitor' user account, but this account does not have any of my information or files on it and I cannot find them anywhere. Now I am computer iliterate so I presume all my documents and photos etc must be in there somewhere, but I have no idea how to get them and restore my 'user account'.
On top of all that I want to check for any bugs, I have 'norton' and 'zone alarm' so hopefully nothing has got through, but need to double check what the cause of all this crap was. I did a scan just yesterday and it said all was clear.
So there you have it, clear as mud now, hope you understood my jibberish and maybe you might know of someone to help fix. Thanks.

Giving advise to fix PC's is quite dangerous when you can not actually see the PC and identify the cause. But there is one thing you might want to try and that is the System Restore feature of XP.
PLEASE first read the help instructions in windows XP first and see if this procedure is suitable for your problem, I suspect it might be.
I am not a great lover of Windows XP, and least of all this System Restore feature, but it might be the answer to your problem.
It is your choice!

your my hero, I just finished trying what you suggested. It took 3 goes but I have it all back, I was panicking a bit as the most important thing on it that I thought I may have lost if worse comes to worst, were about 600 pics of my little boy and family. These were pics just from xmas to now and his first xmas, his first birthday etc etc, so they were irreplacable. I just spent an hour or so updating and saving them all to CD.
So thanks again, not sure if I have done any other damage, but the most important thing is fixed and I'll face any other problems when and if they come up.
Thanks again and I guess you get the beer and lunch if your about and the pleasure of Ringthebells company as well.

Ok, no problem, the chips might be a bit soggy but. As for the other problem with the Bkktonite site, well that is still happening, but it does not happen on any other site. So I hope it is just BK who has a bug in his pants besides his slug and not me.
