Have the same question going under "Newbies Questions" - Mobile Phones. I have the same problem. How to be in thailand and ring her in Thailand without it showing up as a local Thai call.
Answer Option 1.
Use the Swisscon global roaming system (when your sitting at the bar in Soi 7 to pressumably ring her in Soi 4) and the number that will appear on her screen is +44.......... You can then argue your in the UK or going through some european server system.
Now where to get Swisscon Sims card in Thailand.
Email me on craig_4444@ hotmail.com and I will answer you tomorrow after they get back to me. They do have one partner outlet for their Sims card in bangkok. I know they have one in Seoul and I am off tomorrow to get one before I come.
Answer Option 2 :
I am doing a test through a friend in Bkk Thai this week on a few systems, including
Opt ion 2A Using the Australian Sims on Global Roaming, it should just show 00161...
or 2B "Restricting the Caller ID" on my motorola (ithey do have the feature and I am sure yours does) and also having Telstr place a Identification Bar at their end, again using an Australian Testra Sims. They tell me it is probable that the Golbal Roaming will still works and her screen will show "Private Call" and no number. Have to check this.
Your Israel networker may also be able to put a ID Bar at their end which may help confuse her.
I am still seraching for the fullproof solutionand I let you when I find it.
Do the same for me if you find a system that is guaranteed.
I have one week to find it.
Questions for thaiprivateeey -
Q1 What shows up on her phone (or any local phone in Thai) if you ring it from a noral coin pay phone or one of those prepaid car phones.
Q2 What number prefixes appear on the recieving screen???

Go one more solution,
You ring an overseas operator system say in Singapore or Israel (using you Global Roaming number) and ask her to make the call to your girlfirend number. Not quite sure about this, but trying it this week.
You probably have to arrange an account with them.

- Its all getting too difficult now !! - I tried calling my Thai phone from my Overseas phone with caller ID off, and get a thai number 016311000 ??? on screen - It seems to vary, sorry but can not guarantee what will show, guess it depends how Taksin & Co. are handling inbound calls at the time -

This one works 100%, have stakes my cock on it,
Buy an Easy-Roam Swisscom SIMS card (they have an office in Bangkok, look up http://www.easy-roam.com and go to Distribution in Asia - ANV Trading Co, in Pattanakarn Road, Saunluang , ph 662 717 8127).
When you ring from within Thailand to another Thai mobile number, her screen will definitely show either
+41......(It rings back to Switz)
00141....(It rings back to Switz).
079...... followed by you Swisscom phone number. f_ck knows why!!!
If this doesnt confuse her nothing will. Anyway you can argue that you on the ski slopes, somewhere.
Swisscom costs about USD70 for the starter package with 800 units, that last for about 40 minutes of phone calls.
No way a local Thai number will show up on her screen as you are paying international phone rates all the time you use it.
Question is "Is she worth the price of an international call" ?????

I wonder if you could maby get to an internet cafe and use delta3 or net2phone, or pal talk, yahoo call, msn call wich is net 2 phone anyway. I dont know just a thought. Most cases you have to buy a prepaid card you know, I have an A/C with net2phone. I can just dail up whomever and there's no way they would know where i'm at...

Yes you can, we have just tried "net2phone" and it also works.
She may recognize some of the delay in speach, in which case you can just say its a bad line or simply that you are trying to say some money, "for her"????
Its a much cheaper option, of course you have to set it up first and also pay in advance.
Better to go to one of those quiet business cenetres in a hotel, so she doesnt hear the thai voices in the background.
Also, apparently the Swisscom outlet in Bkk is closed and so I just bought one in Korea.

Turning off outgoing number on many cell nets does not work (so I have seen)...
Does it matter if its a thai number but not one she can call back... I keep a second SIM for those kind of calls...

It can be done here -hiding the number. But you need a friend high up at your mobile telco to order the hiding of number for you -or someone not so high up but working in the unit that would do it.
