Re: 011-66-38-01-999-9999. Yep, that's too many numbers. When I call my TGF in BKK from the States, it takes one of two modes:
011-669-xxx-xxxx where 66 gets me to BKK and 9 identifies that it's a BKK mobile number. Or I call 011-662-xxx-xxxx, where the 2 identifies it as the BKK landline to her apartment centrex.
Not sure if you have to dial the 38 (will defer to Doc Love on this). If you do, then you'd have to really sort out all those extra zeroes. Some permutation of these should work, provided you get the country code, local code, phone number sequence right.
When local in BKK, I call my TGF by dialing 01-xxx-xxxx or 09-xxx-xxxx to get the local switches to do their thing. The '"0" gets dropped when I call from the States and get replaced by the "66" preamble.
Gotta believe there's someone on the board who calls Pattaya from the States and can tell you the right sequence (did Doc Love's approach work?). Because I haven't got a frickin' clue

if you ring a mobile you dont need an area code, when people ring my Thai mobile from the UK they ring the same number whether I am in BKK Pattaya Phuket etc etc

Drop the city code "38 and drop the "0" cellphone prefix and dial 011-66-1-999-9999. Now I'm happy.
