I am interested in GPS use in Thailand too. Has anyone seen a Thailand map update for Garmin GPS units in Pantip or anywhere. I was hoping they had software that was reasonable. I am thinking about getting a NUVI (I have a C330) with the US maps on it and then when I get to Thailand I would buy the update map for Thailand, but I am not interested at $100 US for the update.

I am only going to be there for 15 days, most of which will be in Pattaya. Any help on this is appreciated.

I know I can use a pda with google maps, but I do not have one, I have an old Sony phone that I purchased there last time that I will use.

Hi on my last trip to LOS I used an old secondhand MIO A501 PDA gps phone.Went to Fortune town BKK and got GARMIN XT installed on it,worked just fine. One thing I did not understand they sell new MIO gps devices in LOS all of them with Garmin software no MIOMAP ? I asked the guy in the shop seems MIOMAP does not work. He told me any PDA with GPS windows mobile 5 or 6 will work with Garmin XT.By the way IGO gps software is also available, but it did not work on my device, maybe with other types of PDA.

I've used GPS extensively lately mostly around BKK, but also Phuket, HuaHin etc.
Driving or by MRT, foot whatever!
With Sony Ericsson phones Google Maps in my view works best since it can pin point the location by use of GSM cell info when only 1 or 2 satelittes is in view (which is often!).
However map/satellite view is only in Thai...
Alternatively there's 'wayfinder' application installed with free 3months trial or so again with live map data which works well with unlimited data package typically 1k monthly (ais/dtac).
However what I've found is that neither APP is able to provide fast shortcut routes (since no traffic data is available for BKK), so if following their proposed routes one usually is stuck in traffic forever LOL.
Enjoy!

I have a Garmin nuvi 255W with North American NT maps. Has anyone used the "Garmin SD/Micro SD Card - City Navigator NT Southeast Asia" in Thailand? Any experiences to share?
