Where did u buy the Thai 12 pre paid. Last time around I was having problem in buying the prepaid card in BKK. I ended renting a cellphone from DTAC at the Airport. What is the minimum cost for Prepaid 12 and can you make IDD calls from it

check out mbk! tons of prepaid cards from 1,2 call, DTAC or orange there! no problem with supply at all. may be you get hooked up with a dealer who wants to make more money on renting a phone to you!
used phones in thailand are starting from thb 2,000 upwards.
once again as said so many, many times before: the best and cheapest way is to buy a package with a sim card and a new gsm phone for about as low as thb 5,000 (nokia 3330 or siemens c45) including a thb 2,000 credit airtime! this is an orange or dtac offer! ais is about thb 1,000 more expensive!

Anyone knows when MBK opens, I'll be landing in bangkok at some ungodly hour (5-6am). I'm thinking about staying 1 night in bangkok before moving to pattaya for a few weeks. So using that one night to buy the cell phone should be good.
You think I should be able to get a walk-in room at a hotel in the suk. area during january 9-13th? (for around 500-800bt)?

mbk opens at 10:00 but not all the shops inside might do so too!
a walk in at a hotel at this time of the year might be possible but probably not for that sort of budget you are targeting. may be thb 800-1000 should be more realstic at this time of the year. also be prepared to check several hotels as they tend to be pretty well booked!

Note: the phone places at MBK open much later than most of the other stores. ( I think 12pm is the earliest).

just came from MBK this morning and about 30% of the cellphone stores are open at 10:30am. It is best to go there at around 12:00noon to make sure that all of them are open. Last night i went at around 9:00pm and some stores are beginning to close.
Incidentally, i bought a 12call starter kit at Baht 550/- only (w/ Baht 300/- airtime) and a second hand nokia 3330 at Baht 3,300/- (brand new nokia 3310 cost around Baht 3,850/-).

Does the prepaid cards from 1,2 call, DTAC or orange all work in BKK, Pattaya and Phuket?
Or is the net-solution in any area bad?
I think these are the main areas for travellers like me.
So its good to know if there are any problems with some provider.

dtac and ais should be fine all over thailand. orange is okay in bangkok but has still some coverage problems in the rest of the country!
