900 USD for any phone is insane, hell you can get one of those iThingys for less than that. I am happy with my PRC dual-SIM Android (USD 126). It does my email, cruses the internet (Opera), runs the apps I need (may of the same type apps found on iTunes), allows me to watch MP4 and streamed videos, to listen to MP3 and streamed music (got Sirius/XM on it), to read any book in my Kindle library, locate my position with AGPS/GPS, etc, etc, etc. Basically anything that can be done on any other smart phone. Hell iDuck, it even has a capacitive touchscreen like the iThingys do... oh, and did I say it is as fast as the fruit-phone 4 my colleague compared it with? I will admit that the phonecam is shit but when I want a photo I do not use a phone anyway, I use a real novel invention called a 'camera' (Cannon DSLR to be exact). BTW: I object to calling the devices included on a phone a 'camera'. When a phone can simulate multiple film speeds, multiple shutter speeds, depth of field settings, multiple aperture settings, and adjustable focal lenghts... then it will have a 'camera' ...

You really shouldn't pass judgment on something you haven't used, or investigated. The best camera is the one you carry with you - do you carry your DSLR at all times? My Canon EOS has its place, but I carry my phone everywhere, hence 99% of my snapshots are done with it - and with iCloud synching, by the time I get home all pictures are downloaded on iPhoto and waiting for me.

Agree that 900 usd is a high price but this is not just a phone. Even at 1.500 usd I would buy it. This is my 4th phone this year. Nokia N97, Nokia N9, Sony xperia and now Samsung note. This phone is a completely different division. Ofcourse you always have a better professional camera and a better computer but as a all in one this is the first phone that realy handles all my daily needs. Maybe I will not need to buy a new phone for a while. Test it out before you judge it. If u cant afford it you are not in the market for this kind of phone anyway.

Actually iDuck, I have used the phonecam on my old N97, it made for a nice snapshot but a real photo... not. I tend to agree with this commentator's view on the phonecam: Has Photography Ruined Travel ....but then again, every cat to his own ashcan...

That article author's basic point is valid (the unwashed hordes only snap pictures but don't look at the world), but the manner in which he makes it is idiotic as he classifies himself as an undisciplined troglodyte. Furthermore, if you had paid attention, the author himself included DSLRs in his condemnation, as that is the one he used himself, seemingly in some effort to "be cool". He blames phone cameras, because they are ubiquitous, to have jump started and to perpetuate this phenomenon (missing maybe the point that snapshot cameras have been ubiquitous since the 1970s, and the proliferation of cheap and one-time use cameras in the 1980s) - his entire issue was with the phenomenon of grinning picture snapping fools, not phone cameras. I use specific cameras for specific purposes - my iPhone is there daily, for any immediate snapshots I need to take (and, in that category, it just so happens to be the best phone camera around, yielding the best quality pictures) ; my Canon DSLR is there for higher quality, set up shots, that I have time to take; and finally, for underwater and beach pictures, I rely on my Canon Powershot with the Canon underwater case - awesome for that task, and takes some great underwater pictures. Of those, #1 and #3 are essential for my vacation trips.

I agree that the author included underwater and DSLRs as part of his condemnations, however I was stating my support for his point on phonecams.... not the whole article. Two things that drive me insane about smartphones are: Folks who seem to be unable to not answer their phones no matter where they are or what they are doing (especially when driving on a busy two lane highway). -and- Folks that have to stop in the middle of a crowded sidewalk and block everyone else to take that photo of the cute little dog going by (and other such idiocies of this type). I am willing to bet that if they had to open a case to answer the phone (like the original mobiles) or had to dig out their camera from a purse they would not give in to the impulse to do silly shit like this...

Hell vikingblood, both the iDuck (whom I know) and I could afford to buy several phones of that price and not blink an eye. But we have better things to spend that money on a phone when there are other phones that do the same thing. I know with APPL falling the iDuck would love to snap up a few more shares whilst I am in the market for undervalued high dividend yielders like CAT. So go ahead and overpay for your 'bling' phone and if there are enough fools like you I might include a few shares of Samsung on my shopping list.... not!
