Just got my Ji-net Compax 512 package this week. I pay 2620 Baht per month (including VAT) unlimited access including modem, installation, media (Telecom Asia) and activation charge and I think I can use up to 10 GBper month. It works perfectly well and I'm constantly on line because I also connected a VOIP telephone. Now my international phone calls are about 1 Baht/min - this will save me much more money than what I'm paying for the ADSL package.

Well, do I got news for you....
The new Telecom Asia package...
2.5 mbs (5 x your speed), unlimited hours, no data transfer limit..... No activation fee and a free telephone line..... THB 1,100.
THB 2,200 will get you a 4096/512 package.
Your package is I think THB 750 per month (512/256, unlimited)
Modem is THB 1,800 (free if you use other TA services like Orange for a minimum of THB 300 per month).

Well, Dr. Love; with the True package you have still got to subscribe with an Interned provider....the rates published on the site you mentioned only include the "media fee" but no subscription to an ISP. I went through that before...and if you buy the media package form TA or True or anyone else you still have to subscribe with a separate ISP...and then it's usually more expensive than the JI-net package.

These packages are INCLUDING unlimited hours of Internet provided by Asia Infonet, a daughter of TA.
No need to subscribe with a seperate provider.

Used to be like that, but since beginning of this year not anymore.
Think it's still like that for cable... where you pay a fee for the line and separate fee for access.... You can choose between KSC or Internet Thailand.
TA's product is now called Hi-Speed Internet instead of the ADSL name. When I subscribed a couple of months ago the maximum number of hours was 40. It has been relaxed now to unlimited. Plus before I got 1 mbs, now 3 mbs.

Anyways...I expect that prices are tumbling erevy day...new promotions are popping up from everywhere. Even if the True package is so much cheaper now - they didn't offer it to me when I asked for it; and a month ago the JI-net promotion was still the cheapest available for my existing telephone line. And if it's still cheaper after my subscription expires within a couple of months I can still change to a cheaper service.
Of course you are right...we need to keep our eyes open if we want to have the best price

Dr Love, I just checked with True again, they faxed me a detailed information package and I spoke to their technical representative. The result: don't forget that we are in Thailand....if a girl looks too good to be true...then she's not a girl... Well there come serious limitations with the new True package: they confirmed me that they strictly don't support any router - in fact they only support three types of modem that are only good to connect one computer. I asked them about Voice over Internet Telephones (VoIP) and they confirmed me that their service doesn't support any VoIP and no video conferencing protocols. All related ports are not supported by this package - this package is strictly for home users who want to connect one single PC and surf the internet without any enhanced features. He even couldn't confirm whether netmeeting is supported. For these enhanced services they offer a business package at a much higher price. So for now I will stay with my JI-net package and use my Internet telephone and save hundreds of $s per month with cheap overseas calls - and at the same time keep my PC connected to the net.

Did they mention (or have a url which mentions) what modem/routers they support
I have a True connection, but stopped using it because the old per-hour international charges were too much. Instead I got a package from loxinfo that costs 3K, but its a real unlimited and not crippled like True.
However I still have the True connection, and supposedly its 2mb now because they upgraded me as an existing customer - but the upgrade doesn't work with my existing 4 port modem/router. If I could get the True working I'd use it soley to download files....I still like to grab TV shows off the net.

I dont't know where you got this from but it is nonsense, True (the brandname of telecom asia, asianet,..) is a ISP, you go to a true shop, buy a starter kit (let them check your phone number first so that you are sure that it is availabe at your home) go home and install the modem (USB), 3 days later you are ready to go. unlimited access (timewhise) and a 140 MB download limit per hour (which is seen monthly so it gives you about 100GB per month which should be enough) - who gave you this completely wrong information?
