There is no need to buy another mobile as long as your current mobile telephone operates on GSM 900 and/or PCN 1800.
Take it into the MBK centre and they will 'unlock' it for a nominal fee. Between 200 & 600 baht.
Then, you can purchase a SIM card for as little as 300 to 400 baht(This will include 100 to 150 baht worth of calls) and off you go.
It's as simple as that.

I have brought three mobiles here from UK....two were locked.....both unlocked at MBK 4th floor 200B each.
I have bourght three SIM cards since May one was 1200B with 1500B free calls and the other was 800B with 1200B free calls.....they basically pay you to get on the network......you have to shop around as the deals change all the time and some clear out quicker than others.
It really is that simple!!
One word of warning...thought I have not met anyone who has actually had this happen to them....when you give your phone to be unlocked....do not have your foreign SIM card in it....I'm told they can be copied....but as I said....it's just a rumour.
My paranoid mate tells me hundreds of these things....never met any of them first hand....but he has....I think he drinks at Conspiracy Theory in Nana Plaza.

You can buy a SIM card at a mobile phone shop or for the largest choice the MahBoonKhrong Centre(MBK). Prices start at 300 baht or so. Recharge cards are then available at local shops, SevenEleven etc.
