Dr Love, I just checked with True again, they faxed me a detailed information package and I spoke to their technical representative. The result: don't forget that we are in Thailand....if a girl looks too good to be true...then she's not a girl... Well there come serious limitations with the new True package: they confirmed me that they strictly don't support any router - in fact they only support three types of modem that are only good to connect one computer. I asked them about Voice over Internet Telephones (VoIP) and they confirmed me that their service doesn't support any VoIP and no video conferencing protocols. All related ports are not supported by this package - this package is strictly for home users who want to connect one single PC and surf the internet without any enhanced features. He even couldn't confirm whether netmeeting is supported. For these enhanced services they offer a business package at a much higher price. So for now I will stay with my JI-net package and use my Internet telephone and save hundreds of $s per month with cheap overseas calls - and at the same time keep my PC connected to the net.

Plase do not spread rumors here, I am a true customer (and employee I might add) and there is NO restriction on what service you can use. Please forward me that fax so I can follow up with teh customer care agent who sent it. you can use ALL services like netmeeting, internet phone, you name it.

cheers

Did they mention (or have a url which mentions) what modem/routers they support

I have a True connection, but stopped using it because the old per-hour international charges were too much. Instead I got a package from loxinfo that costs 3K, but its a real unlimited and not crippled like True.

However I still have the True connection, and supposedly its 2mb now because they upgraded me as an existing customer - but the upgrade doesn't work with my existing 4 port modem/router. If I could get the True working I'd use it soley to download files....I still like to grab TV shows off the net.

You can use one of the following ADSL Modems with the HiSpeed Package= in order to recieve the upgraded speed

1) ASKEY-Ale070
2) ZYXEL-Prestige630
3) BILLION-Bipac7000

check at http://www.truecorp.co.th (and switch the language to english

I got it working with my old router after a few phone calls. There were two big problems

1) They changed my username without telling me
(xxx@trueadsl was now xxx@truehisp)
2) The VCI setting was now 100, I think it was 35 before
( please don't ask what VCI stands for - haven't got a clue )

Once I got it working, I had a nice 1.5 mbps connection.
BUT the quality with my VOIP system was unusable - all echoes and drop outs. Might be the result of high latency.

My 256kbs line from csloxinfo works perfectly with VOIP.

Looks like I'm still stuck with 2 DSL lines.

It seems that True Corp is at the moment the best provider.

I am going for the 2.5 Mbps unlimited Home Package tomorrow. THB 2,400 is cheap ! And as UBC customer, I will get the Get free USB modem.

I hesitated with the Wi-Fi @ Home (256/128) but finally chose DSL 2.5 Mbps...

Hi, actually all customers got an email explaining the changes AND a letter explaining the changes about 3 weeks befire the changes...strange that you did not get neither?

VCI = Virtual Channel Identifier (compareable with the phone number)
VPI= VPI = Virtual Path Identifier (compareable the area code)

while the VPI was not changed, the VCI was changed to the new equipment.

About high latency, it really depends where you are located (in relation to the nearst PoP from True) - I can use VoIP with few problems, I got the 4096 at home and usually get about 3.3 Mbit wich is as good as it get's considereing the overhead of the line. Now that of course is only from my computer to the True network, out to the internet, you can not expect a guaranteed speed, too many factors like speed of the server you are visiting, ethernet overhaed..kind of routing to the destination....

But all in all I would not call it a bad package, it is not intended for high end business customers of course, there are other packages to suit that need, it is marketd as a end customer package.

Where do you got this rate from? According to the True site it's only THB 1,150 per month for the 2.5 mbps.

The most expensive is the 4 mbs.... THB 2,200 per month.

BTW cyberbkk thanks for your input as an employee of True.

I doubted Longtime's rumor that you couldn't use VOIP, but didn't have the proof to back up. I guess Ji-Net and True use the same network, so I guess the same features apply.

The phone lines used are always the same, the difference is the equipment at the end point - tehre are the differences between a regular ADSL package (true also offers business adsl packagaes but they are more expensive) and the hi-speed home customer package. You will see that you get IP addresses from different ranges when using hi-speed internet or Business ADSL.

But VoIP works with the home customer packages as well (as others in that thread stated allready) - the only downside is the highly overloaded equipment since the change in speed and the change to unlimited access.

We are adding capacity (interntaional links) now (allready up from 300 Mbit international Link to 575 Mbit - you can always check the current network status at

http://webcorp.asianet.co.th/eh/linkinter/linkstatus.php

it is also a good link if you have problem accessing international sites, most likely you will find that one of the main international links is down. Or, as was the case 3 times this month - CAT has problems with their core routers.

Longtime
Didn't check posts for a long time...
Just saw that cyberbkk thinks I'm spreading rumors. Listen Pal: I'm not. I got a standard fax from True explaining the service. And as you clearly outline in one of your posts your service only supports 3 different modems and no router. All these modems don't allow the connection of a router that would be necessary to connect a computer and a VoIP Streamer that is needed to connect a phone. I called your office and a girl explained me that it is not possible with your service to connect to internet and VoIP simultaneously; maybe your net would support the necessary protocols - but the modems mentioned don't. Of course it is not mentioned on your fax that I cannot use VoIP - but it was explicitely mentioned and emphasized by your staff on phone. Your service is of no use to me if I cannot connect a VoIP streamer and telephone and a PC simultaneously.

LocalYokul

face it, if they can hire a wanker like you-know-who then they obviously don't know WTF they are doing...

and as far as spreading rumors (or information that shouldn't be), then you-know-who wins hands down ! !
