SMEGMA claimed he had a friend with some extreme problems on his iPhone, and despite offering to help out, again, no one spoke up.

Correction: I didn´t claim he had problems. I said he said he had such problems.

After reading several comments regarding his claims about the problems he had, I tend to think they were excuses to try explaining why his phone was disconnected, as he later admitted that he is avoiding some people who call him.

your assumption that I have never used a Mac is just one of the many erroneous statements you have made in this thread, which are becoming so numerous it is hard to keep track of them all.
So, what's your current Mac, or the most recent Mac OS you have used (or, are using) ?

Fair enough.

I think I already know the answer to this but all computer manufactures have a customer support number to call so you can reach a representative to ask whatever question you may have
So far my choice looks like a Mac the little more money for the extra dependability is a plus for me, next a provider & a pile of cash

I never said that I currently own a Mac. In the early days of the Mac, it was the only desktop computer I used at work.

Over the years I have occaisionly used various Mac's, especially for desktop publishing, graphics, etc. I have used OS X Desktop version, but I don't know the exact version number since it was not my machine.

So, essentially, we're back to the established fact that your only 'in-depth' knowledge of the Mac dates back *to* the way it was 25 years ago. If you can't recall the exact version of OS X you were using, then your interaction amounted to little more than tinkering on the keys.

As long as we've established that....

You are a master of distortion and obfuscation, and not so good at the truth.

When I use a computer to do something, I am not preoccupied with the exact version of the OS, especially if I do not own it. I certainly have worked with OS X, even if I don't know the exact sub-version number. Since you are claiming that the Mac is so much easier to use than Windows, you should not expect users to have to know the detailed release number of the OS.

Anyway, that has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that, despite your claims to the contrary, a MacBook is hundreds of dollars more expensive than an equivalently powered PC laptop. That is the point I made, and your pathetic attempt to refute me on that point has been exposed for all to see. Changing the subject from hardware prices to software is not going to get you off the hook on this one.

So, really, your last experience with using Macs was somewhere in the past 25 years... if we include a nondescript version of OS X, well, then we can at least narrow it down to somewhere in the past 10 years.

I would assume that you would at least know what version of whatever graphics application you claim to have been using, you were using; or maybe (here's hoping against all hope) that you know at least if you were on an intel based OS X machine, or one of those things they had previously.... It's not a question of 'the exact release number' (strawman alert), but rather people that USE a Mac, do know if they used Jaguar, Panther, Tiger or Leopard... but you are right, we are digressing.

You may have conveniently missed me addressing the pricing issues you keep harping on:

Yes, you pay a little more, but you get a lot more in terms of a better computer, better support, and something that holds its value a lot longer, and that you will be able to use a whole lot longer, and get a lot more out of...

Since you don't like strawmen, let's skip the BS about the OS versions, which is completely OT and is being used by you as a diversion from your embarrassingly inaccurate posts concerning the cost of a MacBook.

I posted above that a MacBook cost hundreds more than a PC laptop. You countered that "the MacBook he [Mr Alan] lists for comparison can be purchased from Apple directly for $799"

I then point out that the price of the cheapest MacBook on the Apple Store website is $1099 (same as Best Buy). You then counter that you really meant Amazon. I look on Amazon and find the cheapest MacBook (with less RAM, disk, etc than the PC laptops for hundreds less) is $1024 after $75 mail-in rebate (assuming you actually get the rebate--which is always a bit iffy).

So in summary, you misspoke again by claiming that the cheapest Apple MacBook is $799 when it is really at least $1024 (and you admitted that one needs to spend more money purchasing add-on memory since it has less than the PC laptops at hundreds less).

Not sure what you plan to do about the ridiculously small 80 GB disk drive, which is hardly appropriate for someone who wants to store videos and pics. There is no DVD burner on this machine, only DVD-ROM. One might also want to allocate some extra money for a magnifying glass to view the pitifully small 13.3" LCD.

Even worse, members have somehow convinced the OP that a Mac is more "dependable," when you really mean that it is easier to use (which I generally agree--somewhat), but the Mac is more likely to have hardware problems than most other brands according to every “frequency of repair” study I have seen (i.e., Consumer Reports, etc).

Yes, about $400-$500 more for the same hardware.

I will admit that it is a tiny bit easier to use than a PC for the "digitally challenged" crowd.

You can't be serious.

A computer is not a good investment, since it depreciates rather quickly.

Until it breaks.

Except that it only runs a small fraction of the software that a PC runs.
