Just for your information - I switch to 'Freedom Plus' every time I am in BKK, and switch back to 'Freedome Friends' when I leave. My expiry date (december 2005) has never been affected, and in fact, now it's May 2005. The only thing I encountered now is that it stopped working abroad - this may be related to the Freedom Friends, but not sure. Time to test their e-mail customer support. Harry

Quote: from DrLove on 1:59 pm on Oct. 18, 2004 Thai Mobile is 1900 mhz, not 900 mhz. Furthermore, LivininLOS, you must have enjoyed too much of Phuket sunshine.
Apart from the recent floods sure...
------------------------------------------------------------------ So you get 15 days from a top up card instead of 30... I think I have a couple of years added on to my phone at the moment (remember its not 15 days from the card purchase its 15 days ADDED to you existing length). For me a total non issue.. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I think ColoradoGuy has set you already on the right path...
Nope I just did a balance check... Its accumulated validity for a reason.. you accumulate it and it build up...
---------------------------------------------------------------------- Not true.. Dont know how long they do give but its in the order of months.. I had an 'old' sim left by a visiting friend.. New mate arrived put chip in phone.. Bought credit.. Charged it up.. must have been 3 - 5 months out of credit or use. -----------------------------------------------------------------------I've used 1-2 Call for years. If you what you said is true, what's the use of an expiry date? 7 days after your expiry date, the number is taken out of use.
Well what can I say... Have you ever actually lost a number ?? I know for a fact that a card I had in a drawer for perhaps 4 or 5 months was fine.. When it had run out I cant tell you but perhaps thats a scare tactic to stop people having no money and getting incoming calls... I am sure it does get knocked off at some point but after 7 days I can vouch that it does (or rather did.. Could be they are now more strict) not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Well I live in a major town (patong) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- For your information, Patong is not considered a town or city. Phuket has only one major town or city... Phuket Town. Did your friend have trouble there?
No idea was not with him there... The fact is the phone showed signal.. He claims that since using the orange sim he is getting lots of times calls going to voicemail while he is within a signal area... As to Patong not being a town well up to you.. First place on the Island to get broadband... 1 Mbit lines for 1000 baht.. IT city status !!!
------------------------------------------------------------------- So you have saved 20 baht... Do you teach english and get paid in shiny beads and pretty shells :p Is the inconvienience and or unprofessionalism of one lost call or missed contact worth that kind of saving ?? Not to me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't teach English, I am an IT consultant. Anyway I don't see what teaching English has to do with getting a better deal? This was an example for only one call... but as you probably make only one call a month.. you're right.
That was intended as a little dig / joke hence the :p which normal UBB code presents as a toungue out simley face... Joke of course being English teaching is a pretty underpaid profession and a staple of many long staying expats with no marketable skills... No reall offence intended I assure you.. As to GPRS to have it simple and 1 baht per min for pre pay is a really good deal... The next thing of course will be using the PDA version of skype in a smartphone to have free international calls.. You would be paying 1 baht per min for the GPRS connection and nothing for the international leg..

Anyway, more correctly: AIS tells you that your number expires 7 days after expiry date, while Orange says a little over 1 month. The whole idea of this Freedom Plus promotion is to spent your credit over a shorter time (30 days will be only 15 days). It does add up though but only with a limited time stretch. ----------------------------------------------------------------- As to Patong not being a town well up to you.. First place on the Island to get broadband... 1 Mbit lines for 1000 baht.. IT city status !!! ----------------------------------------------------------------- Good for you! Well, in Bangkok it's 2.5 mbits for around 1,000 baht.

Who doesn't want a fat pipe I agree the point of the freedom is approx 1/2 price and approx half as much accumulated time.. My situation is I always use my credit faster than my time so this plan fits me..

Quote: from ColoradoGuy on 8:44 am on Oct. 18, 2004 MBK is the place to go if you need the phone unlocked. If you just need the chip, MBK or FortuneTown are probably the cheapest places, but you can get a chip at the phone shop in Robinsons Sukhumvit Soi 17 or at the phone shop next to KFC on Suk between Soi 3 and Soi 1. If all you need is the chip, it is not worth a trip to MBK unless you want to gawk at the hot sales clerk in the womens department at Toku.
There is also a smaller (real small) phone place right across from Gulliver's. I took my boss there since he was more interested in convenience rather than saving fifty baht for a chip.

Top floor of Big C there is an anex full of phone shops, I land Sunday and will be heading there after checking in to my hotel and then to SabaiLand... I am a bit pissed off that the card I had in April can not be reactivated so I would have the same number... BB
