Yeah, those Amazon Kindle tablets are certainly damning competition for Apple's iPad: Marco Arment Reviews the Kindle Fire http://www.marco.org/2011/11/17/kindle-fire-review
I’ve read part of a book, three magazines, and a newspaper. I’ve played two games and watched four TV shows from two sources. I’ve also taken far too long to set up my email, failed to find a good RSS reader, turned a lot of pages accidentally, repeated taps that did nothing the first time, and crashed a few apps and the Fire itself.
Yeah, sounds like a winner.

Oh yeah, if rattling off specs matters to you, I'm sure you will enjoy it a lot. Personally, I prefer to have a tablet that I can actually do something with, but to each their own...

Yeah, it's a shame having to wait until the end of the month for new items that will kick Apples ass, or I could get the current model that still kicks Apples ass....hahahaha. And it costs much less.

hardware is only part of the story, smartphones & tablets are defined by the interplay between its software, services, and hardware, but it’s the software that’s most important. ICS is the first Android that can run decently on tablets but still lags behind iOS in term of usability, it suffers badly from fragmentation and it has severe security issue. I hope you also buy an AV to go with your Asus. So don't come here gloating over a gadget that you don't even own yet, it makes you sound like a.......... I leave to others to fill the gap

Sadly, for misguided folks like yourself, neither of your options "kick Apple's ass". Rattling off specs only gives you a paperweight - what matters is how usable it is, and Android (while getting better) has a long way's to go. Oh, and enjoy the 75 Tablet apps in the MarketPlace. (correction: They are up to 1,000 now - woohoo!) It's a nice design though, an Android netbook with a removable keyboard, so, really, you are really in the market for a netbook that doesn't run Windows. Enjoy.

Yeah, let's see where Asus is by next year. I'm sure a strongly worded official denial of exiting the tablet market by next year would almost count as firm assurance that they would http://www.bgr.com/2011/11/17/tablet-market-to-thin-as-failures-drive-pc-vendors-back-to-pcs/ Tablet market to thin as failures drive PC vendors back to PCs A number of recent entrants in the tablet space may make quick exits as their tablet offerings go largely unnoticed in a market seen to be dominated by the likes of Apple, Amazon and Barnes & Noble moving forward. A new report from DigiTimes on Thursday cites unnamed sources from within component suppliers in stating PC vendors such as HP, Acer, Asustek and Dell may abandon the tablet market next year. These companies have gained very little traction in the tablet space according to the report, as they lack competitive advantages. Read on for more. Amazon, Barnes & Noble and possibly even Apple will continue to bring cheaper and more compelling tablets to market, making it increasingly difficult for companies like HP and Dell to compete. The former two companies are also seen as profiting mainly from their content platforms rather than hardware sales, so they are willing to sell devices at rock bottom prices that traditional PC vendors will be unable to match. A number of venders are expected to turn to Microsoft’s Windows 8 platform once it becomes available in the second half of 2012, in an effort to offer a fresh take on media tablets. Of course, they might also try introducing unique and compelling features that draw attention and add utility unavailable on competitive offerings. DigiTimes’ report notes that there are already indications that interest in the tablet market among consumers may be waning, and even Apple’s iPad 2 has seen sales stall in recent months. An earlier report noted that Google’s new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform is still not strong enough to compete in the tablet market, which could mean interest in Android tablets will continue to sputter in 2012 as it did this year. Awwww.... and some people thought they gained so many bragging points with their Transformer purchase. What a bummer that this bubble went "poof" http://www.electronista.com/articles/11/12/01/transformer.prime.benches.show.tegra.3.too.slow/ ASUS Transformer Prime well-received, but slower than iPad 2 Transformer Prime benches show Tegra 3 too slow ASUS' Transformer Prime has arrived to good reviews but has shown that the iPad 2 is still well in front in performance. Early tests run at AnandTech show that, despite having two extra main cores and a third companion core, the Tegra 3 processor in the Prime is only just as fast in browsing as the two-core, nine months old iPad 2. In graphics, normally NVIDIA's strong suit, the iPad 2's PowerVR graphics were unambiguously faster, in one case nearly doubling the performance. The video tests might also have underreported Apple's relative performance, since BaseMark tests had to run on a less complex 16-bit floating point precision on the Transformer Prime where the iPad 2 was using more advanced 24-bit precision. Battery life was good for the very first quad-core mobile tablet but was also trailing significantly behind Apple, at about four hours behind in a 720p movie playback test and almost two and a half hours back for general use. The signature Transformer notebook dock should give ASUS' slate several hours more, however, for those willing to pay the $150 premium. It's unclear how much of the blame can sit on software. Android 3.2 is at least aware of dual-core processors but might not be aware of four or more cores in certain areas. ASUS has promised that Android 4.0 will come soon, but until then may be limited by pre-4.0 code. The Tegra 3 is, however, now fast enough to fully drive the tablet display and has eliminated most, although not all, of Android 3 tablets' distinctive interface lag. The performance, if it holds, could nonetheless heavily favor Apple's third-generation iPad expected to launch early next year. Repeated rumors have pointed to an upcoming A6 processor that will either be a significantly faster dual-core processor similar to the Exynos 5250 or a full quad-core processor. As a result, even without an expected graphics upgrade, the next iPad could be objectively faster. Until then, the Transformer Prime will mostly rely on its much improved build and slimmer profile. ASUS has moved the release back slightly from what was expected and will ship to the US on December 19 at $500 for a 32GB model. Sent from my iPad

As expected, the Kindle Fire is obliterating the Android tablet market, pretty much squeezing all other struggling tablets out. While the press likens the Kindle Fire to ye another iPad Killer, it really turns out to be an Android Tablet Killer - any growth comes at the expense of the remaining Android tablets in the sliver of the Android market space that isn't iPad dominated. http://www.electronista.com/articles/11/12/02/estimate.has.amazon.poaching.other.android.devices/ iSuppli: Kindle Fire already 13.8% of tablets, iPad at 66% Estimate has Amazon poaching other Android devices The Amazon Kindle Fire has already occupied much of the Android tablet market in just one season, IHS iSuppli estimated Friday. At 3.9 million of the mini Android tablets, it would have 13.8 percent of the entire tablet share for the fall. Researchers are modeling for Apple to ship 18.6 million iPads, which would be enough to get it 65.6 percent of the tablet space. The estimates also give a potential insight into how poorly general Android tablets are selling. At just under 1.4 million tablets, Samsung's Galaxy Tab line was still the leader of the rest at 4.8 percent. Its share was likely to be disappointing for an international firm on Samsung's level, however, as even Barnes & Noble's US-only Nook Color and Nook Tablet were within 50,000 units and just a tenth of a point away. HTC's Flyer and Jetstream combined would be just 355,000 units, or 1.3 points. Every other Android tablet, as well as the BlackBerry PlayBook and other minority platforms, would make up just 2.8 million tablets and 4.6 points. Amazon's presence led researchers to up their total shipment expectations for 2011 to 64.7 million and their long-term 2015 prediction up 12 million to 287.2 million. The success came from Amazon discovering some of Apple's "secret sauce," IHS iSuppli senior manager Rhoda Alexander said. Unlike early iPad rivals, Amazon knew how to price its tablet and its business model, market it properly, and have a complete ecosystem waiting. Amazon also had a unique advantage in having its $79 Prime membership and profit-driven stores to lean on, since it could sell hardware at a loss knowing that it would likely make that difference back soon or immediately. IHS iSuppli speculated that Apple may head off the Kindle Fire by using the same strategy it does with the iPhone, where the older model is still on sale at a lower price. Having an iPad 3 to keep the high end while the iPad 2 reaches the low end could eliminate some of Amazon's price advantage. By Electronista Staff

Quote: from koolbreez on 12:56 am on Nov. 19, 2011 Screw Apple, I'm buying the new ASUS transformer prime with quad core in the chipset at 1.5ghz per core when it comes out in a few months.
ASUS introduces the Eee Pad Transformer Prime =================================== AsiaOne Friday, Dec 02, 2011 ASUS held a press event in Taipei on Dec 1 to launch the world's first tablet featuring the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor - the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime. This is also the world's first tablet to be unveiled with Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which will soon to be available through an over-the-air update. Senior Vice President of NVIDIA's Mobile Business Unit and also the inventor of Tegra, Phil Carmack, joined ASUS CEO Jerry Shen on stage. "We are very excited to have ASUS as our launching partner. The Eee Pad Transformer Prime brings out the best of Tegra 3," said Mr. Carmack while introducing the enhanced features on NVDIA's new quad-core processor. ASUS CEO Jerry Shen also said, "The Eee Pad Transformer Prime is designed to be the ultimate consumer choice for tablet. Aside from being extremely thin and light it is extremely powerful. We are proud to be the first to feature NVIDIA's Tegra 3 quad-core processor and provide the best user-experience with Ice Cream Sandwich". The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime has also been nominated as a CES 2012 Innovations Honoree. Developed with NVIDIA and Google, the Eee Pad Transformer Prime and its innovative exclusive mobile dock presents a harmony of beauty and strength. In addition to having superior multimedia performance, the Transformer Prime also boasts enhanced features that include audio powered by ASUS SonicMaster technology, an 8MP rear auto-focus camera with LED flash, and an 18-hour* rated battery life when combined with the mobile dock. All of these are housed in an ultra slim 8.3mm metallic spun finish chassis that weighs just 586g. Multimedia enjoyment in style ------------------------------------- Featuring an incredibly slim form factor, the Transformer Prime is a svelte 8.3mm thin and the only metallic tablet that weighs in at a mere 586g. It brandishes a metallic spun finish design made of aluminum for a secure yet extremely comfortable grip. It comes in two gorgeous colors: Amethyst Gray and Champagne Gold. The Transformer Prime features the ASUS exclusive SonicMaster technology, which is renowned for crisp and acoustically accurate audio. It produces crystal clear sound with a wide sound range, increased sound fidelity, and distinct vocal enhancements not found on any other tablet in the market. The Eee Pad Transformer already boasts a wide 178° viewing angle IPS display, with scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass, but the Transformer Prime goes further, upgraded with a brighter Super IPS+ screen that enhances the brightness of the screen for a better outdoor reading experience. Ultra performance ----------------------- The Transformer Prime is the world's first tablet to feature NVIDIA's next-generation quad-core Tegra 3 processor, creating a new breed of high powered tablet devices. With the quad-core CPU and 12-core GeForce GPU, the Transformer Prime delivers the best and fastest experience for tablet-based multitasking, web browsing, as well as Full HD video playback and gaming. On its own, the Transformer Prime has a battery life of up to 12 hours*, but when combined with the mobile dock, it lasts up to an incredible 18 hours* as the dock recharges the tablet. Prime meets Ice Cream Sandwich ------------------------------------------ Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich brings a plethora of enhancements, and when combined with the design of the Eee Pad Transformer Prime, brings the user experience to new heights. The new camera UI offers better sharing, a new panorama mode, as well as live effects and backgrounds that can be applied in videos. Basic photo editing is now also built into the system, which allows for simple photo touchups. With offline browsing, users can save web pages and view them later without an Internet connection, making it convenient for travelers. While on the road without access to a Wi-Fi network, users can use the new Wi-Fi Direct feature to directly transfer files between Wi-Fi enabled devices. Other enhancements include the new default Roboto font, with a typeface that is easy to read. Users can now also access the Transformer Prime's camera directly from the lock-screen. Finally, among various other UI changes, users can easily create folders on the home screen by dragging one app on top of another. Unrivaled visual acuity ---------------------------- A 1.2MP front camera allows for video conferencing while an 8MP rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash takes clear and sharp photos thanks to a large F2.4 aperture, back illuminated CMOS sensor, touch-to-focus depth of field and low light noise reduction. A first for any tablet, the 8MP camera on the Transformer Prime also has the ability to take full 1080p HD video. Expandability and cloud services ------------------------------------------ The Transformer Prime is offered in both 32GB and 64GB models. It features a micro SD card slot, 3.5mm combo audio jack and micro HDMI port so sharing both what's inside and on screen is quick and easy. However, the feature that gives the Transformer Prime its name is the mobile dock, which gives new meaning to the term versatility. The innovative and convenient design seamlessly provides the user with a keyboard and touchpad, along with limitless expandability options via the USB port and SD card slot. The preinstalled SuperNote application is able to take, draw or record notes; while Polaris Office is great for productivity as it gives users the ability to read and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint (MS Office 97-2007 version compatible) files. In addition, ASUS is offering 8GB of free cloud storage for life via ASUS WebStorage, so users have access to their files via the cloud no matter where they are.
