Quote: from sai tai on 6:33 am on Oct. 16, 2009 What about the gray market imported 3Gs phones from HK that are available for sale in MBK and elsewhere?
$50 to $100 more than buying them in HK.
Quote: from ThaidUp on 5:03 pm on Oct. 19, 2009 Butt it still sucks as a phone and camera, so I will be buying a ITouch for myself.
Have you even used the camera? Of course, it depends on your criteria for a camera - personally, I would have agreed with you regarding the camera on first generation and iPhone 3GS, but the 3GS camera is doing a much better job, and fits my criteria. Basically, the best phone camera I every had was on my Nokia N73, which was 3.2 megapixels, which was the same as on iPhone 3GS. Anything over 3.2 megapixels, with the kind of small lenses they are using, does not provide you any significantly better resolution. The new camera software, coupled with the auto-focus camera in iPhone 3GS does an excellent job taking quite good pictures time and time again. Combine that with the ability to quickly and easily use the images to post process, push online, and all kinds of app based uses (scanning business cards, etc...) and I'd rather have the camera integrated, than carry yet another device with me.

I currently use a SONY C902 basically a camera with a phone plus it meets my must have of a flashlight. The Iphone definitely needs a flash and I would venture to guess that it will be in Y2010 product refresh. As far as photo handling iPhone/iTouch is tops.

Quote: from quack quack on 10:10 pm on Oct. 20, 2009 Stellar quarter results for Apple again.
Yeah, the stock was back up over $200. "While the rest of the world slowly sees profits inching back up, Apple's relishing in $1.67 billion worth of net profit it pulled in from $9.87 billion in revenue. A year ago, the outfit managed to post a quarterly profit of "just" $1.14 billion, and we're also told that gross margin was up 36.6 percent. It should be noted that international sales accounted for a whopping 46 percent of this quarter's revenue, and Mac computer sales managed to shoot up some 17 percent compared to the year-ago quarter." Some kinda suck that is...

http://www.google.com/finance?q=aapl $203 in pre-market. Yeah, I wonder what happened to all those Mark-to-Market fans that suggested selling in the $120s... My portfolio's looking nicer and nicer these days. One immensely surprising bit, though, was that AAPL stock has NOT dipped at all after the announcement of great news (as they mostly do) - I had $20K earmarked for a purchase during the dip. Oh well -- maybe I should wait for the next catastrophic drop, I hear AAPL's going out of business soon
Quote: from quack quack on 1:10 pm on Oct. 20, 2009: although personally consider the iPod to be a one off thing that will never be beat - as the Walkman was for Sony.
Have you heard about the iPhone? It's pretty new, so it may have slipped under your attention span....
Quote: from quack quack on 1:10 pm on Oct. 20, 2009: Apparently Verizon is teaming up with Motorolla ( I think) to create an iPhone killer to be released shortly, but those guys at aapl have a considerable lead in smart phone technology; this product market is getting very crowded with Google joining in.
Apple's competitors are still desperately trying to catch up with the 1st generation iPhone, from 2 years ago, so I see very little 'competition'. Sure, there's some nice phones, but they mostly have appeal to the kind of customer who a) has never heard of what an iPhone is, and b) who hate Apple. Personally, I would not trust anything Motorola makes. Lastly, Google's Android platform is there for one reason only - to deflate the sails of Windows Mobile, and it's working. So far, phones like Moto's Droid, and over 50% of HTC's product line *used* to license Windows Mobile from Microsoft. Not anymore, as they switched to Android, and more product lines are doing the same -- killing MS' revenue stream in that area. As Android gets better, this migration will continue. Moto's Droid is the first Android phone using Android 2.0, which promises to kick some serious ass in that space (albeit not worrying iPhone at all).

Who?
Quote: from quack quack on 1:10 pm on Oct. 20, 2009: I belong to the generation that considered IBM to be God, all 'em angels + the devil combined ; the AS 400 worshipers- wonder why IBM doesn't diversify?
Wow, you really are old - and out of touch... scary.

Yeah, I heard that rumor too. How Apple managed to stuff $34 Billion under the mattress and fail so miserably, well, guess I'll leave that to brainiac snpark to explain....

Anyone else saying this, I would assume it was a great verbal jest -- sadly, I'm afraid you said this in all seriousness.

AAPL at all-time high of $205/share (after hours - $204.92 at closing). Good think I threw caution in the wind and bought some yesterday..

yeah, Skip - at $34 billion, Apple could buy Dell right now, just with their cash reserves. Of course, what could they do with Dell, short of sell the company and give the money back to the shareholder...

Quote: from quack quack on 11:52 am on Oct. 22, 2009 You referring to the IBM AS/400 ? Here is an abstract from an IBM RED BOOK indicating support for the AS 400 and it’s operating system: OS 400 :-
Seriously, drop it -- no one gives a crap about your fascination with antiquated technologies, nor your beard.
Quote: from quack quack on 11:52 am on Oct. 22, 2009 Hair transplants & liposuction ? To yourself sister Duck, as from all accounts that I've read on BTF you are both fat & 'baulde'.
When you have to explain and re-explain yourself to hope being understood, you should have just walked away. It's a little bit of advice that another BTF member doesn't seem capable in taking, despite his claimed high academic achievements... ... lastly, your accounts, just as your knowledgebase, appear to be quite outdated and inaccurate.
