... as well as 10 million downloads scored in the iPhone App Store...

The suppossed 'first' person in the World to buy 1 was paid by a marketing company to sit outside the shop for a couple nights to guarantee he was first to buy at midnight. Not sure why, maybe he wore their shirt advertising the company.

Some fun things with BT. You can send pictures and music to the girls or friends. You can also use it to contact unsuspecting users who have left their BT on, in any public place such as a bar or a train. I'd scan the area, see who's on, and send them a picture. Most of the time their phones would vibrate, and you will have to observe the user's reaction, i.e. him/her checking the phone and you'll know who that person is. I remembered sending Tyler's picture to some BG in Bier Garten, and within a minute I notice a girl holding her mobile phone walking around looking for anyone in the bar resembling Tyler, and she caught him. Now, we can't have that fun with the iPhone.

Good point - but what you listed is also a good reason WHY that feature is disabled, as it also opens up the phone to lots of other shenanigans. Apple simply errs on the side of caution, and personally, I prefer it that way.

Plus, once Thailand opens up to iPhone, we can devise a special 'Biergarten' app for the App Store, to facilitate such social encounters (actually, swell idea... we should work on something)..

one of the killer apps of the 3G iPhone is the GPS mapping unit, although it's said not to be as powerful as a dedicated standalone GPS unit which offer in-car turn by turn navigation (real time driving directions).

I wonder if that is a software or hardware issue or both, and how long before and if they fix it. There can be a market for in-car phone holders that keep the iPhone horizontal to make it easy on the eye to follow visual maps and directions.

Apple has just explained today that the GPS unit is every bit as powerful as the stand-alone units, just that they did not aim to provide turn-by-turn navigation themselves -- there's several liability reasons for that, and thus they leave this to third-parties.

This opens the door to Tom Tom providing their software, albeit I would much rather see Dash porting their software to iPhone -- what Dash provides is more in keeping with what iPhone offers in terms of resources. Use existing Google maps, download updates via the internet connection, update maps and software automatically - Dash already provides all that for $299.

The ultimate accessory for iPhone and Navigation software would be a 7" screen, with extension to a iPod connector, to charge, re-route sound to radio, and output video to that screen - that way, can use it for navigation, and video - I'm trying to figure out a way to reroute the video into my BMW display.

Apple's caution may be warranted but at least give the user the choice of being able to use the feature, with a warning of course. After all Mac OS has been reknown for its user friendliness. But if there is an app that will enable the BT functionality I am all for it too.

Right - unfortunately, that method doesn't use. Despite a warning, EVERYONE will use it, then someone exploits it, and the phone or the user gets in trouble, and they will immediately blame Apple, and the idiotic press will be all over it.

Do you see why it's easier for Apple to disable it?
