Hi all!

Have tried to search the forum but have not found a tip on this topic. Since I (and many others) have an internet hook-up with a supplier from their own country, we consequently need to call respective countries net-supplier to hook up. Expensive longdistance calls which would be nice to avoid!

There must be an easier way. Such as buying a local thai internet with local number to dial. Then it would be easy (and cheaper!) to hook up to the forum and see the list of yummy places to visit next plus of course check email.

Does anybody have any details in this matter?

Just about anywhere (Pantip, 7 eleven, family market) you can by hourly use prepaid packages.

Starting from 150 - 600 baht, you buy a username and password. After your hours have expired, you just buy a new package. Dial in numbers are in Bangkok (or upcountry).

I use ji-net.com ... 450 baht (cover price 599 baht) for 88 hours which provides good value ....

There are also 'unlimited' use packages, but you have to be careful that the right type of phone provider is supported .....

Compare these packages with buying prepaid minutes for mobile phone (1-2-Call ,DTAC etc).

Also you can look for CS-Loxinfo's WebNet package or Inet's Inet-Easy. Both are quality dial-up services for about 10 baht an hour. The packages are, yes, printed in English.

You can score either from the CD and self-indulgent consumer electrobullshit section on the top floor of Robinson Department Store on Soi 19, convenient while traipsing to Soi Cowboy...

My experience with A-net was bad and I can't recommend them.

Mr Alan
Some hotels and serviced apartments have internet access in rooms. There is usually an extra charge, but not always. Also, there are lots of internet cafes, some with connections for you to use your own laptop.

If you tell us which hotel you plan on staying at (or general location), someone might know of good internet cafes that are close by.  But as mentioned, internet cafes are all over town.

If you have a pop3 email account, you can sign up with Yahoo (and other providers) for a free email account that allows you read your mail via a web-page. To send mail from your pop3 account, an extra charge applies, but you can always send mail from your free Yahoo email account.

Good thread, but I'm also wondering if anyone offers mobile pre-paid cards that also support GPRS internet - that way I can go online anywhere I want.

Guys!

This proves this forums excellence. I have a problem, open a thread - and presto - have a solution! This will save $$$ and for that I am greatful. Laptop + internet + email is like a good soapy - you just NEED it!

IŽll be staying at Montien BKK (silom, just opposite PP) and I guess there are places all around but since I need to answer work emails I really wanna sit alone for an hour in the room, have a brew and just hook up and do what needs to be done.

After that -  a quick look at the Forums advices and hit town to --- ehh - cool off the olŽbody!

Thanks again for the responses!

oex100, nope no additional software is required. You get the piece of paper with the userid, password and the dial-up numbers. That's all you need. No settings required.

Although if you want to send out emails using their smtp server, you should set it to the following:

ji-net : net1.ji-net.com
loxinfo : mail.loxinfo.co.th
ksc : ksc.th.com
