Perhaps a strange twist but anybody know how I can call from BKK to a local and or mobile in BKK and pretend I am calling from the states? In the states you can block the caller ID.........ideas please for this strange request. Obviously I want to make somebody think I am back in the USA...........but actually Im still in BKK.

While certainly not cheap you could get a pre-paid card in the U.S., say from AT&T http://www.consumer.att.com/prepaidcard/ then you would dial the local Thai access number, 001-999-11111 which connects you to AT&T Direct, then enter your calling card access number, 888-nnn-nnnn, choose to make an international call, then dial 66 n nnn-nnnn. I believe the number displayed will be one of AT&T's trunks in the U.S., rather than your local Thai number. I have not tested this but will when I return to Thailand in a few weeks. This sort of call will cost ~ one USD or less per minute depending on the type of pre-paid card you get. For me, this type of call would cost sixty-seven US cents per minute.
