I recently bought a CD Thai dictionary ("popular dictionary") but most of the Thai text comes up as gibberish.
I have tried downloading Thai fonts as well as changin XP language settings.
Anyone had this ? Any ideas ?

You have to install the fonts into your C:\Windows\Fonts directory if on Windows XP. Installing them is about as easy as copying them to that folder.

And don't forget to enable 'Asian fonts' in:
Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Languages -> Supplemental Language support

Actually have already done both.
Populardictionary still writing gibberish instead of Thai... and this is on two computers, one of which is running an XP I bought at MBK ("with Thai support"?)
Any other ideas ?

Does XP support the dictionary? I saw problems with another dictionary on XP, but worked fine on ME English Edition with a special plugin..

Enabling Thai 'font support' in XP and using Thai Windows operating system are not exactly one-in-the-same. I suspect the app your trying to use was written to be run on TH Windows O/S exclusively.
Also, the dictionary app may have been programmed to run on Thai Win95/98/Me, and won't necessarily run (properly) on W2K or XP. Win95/98/Me and W2K/XP all have same GUI interfaces, but W2K & XP have completely different engines under the hood (kernel, file system, etc.).
I tried installing the Japanese version of Netscape on English XP a while back. Netscape ran, but the interface was all assed up, totally garbled menus. However, using English version Netscape on English XP with all the Asian font features enabled and installed, everything worked like a champ.

Sure is nice that the Macintosh OS X has full international character and localization support, and doesn't have any such issues... Stuff just works. Including localized display in Thai.

XP doesn't have that issue neither.
There is simply NO Thai Windows XP. It's a multi language version for the whole of Asia (and beyond).
But as said, the application should support the OS. Also if you fill in a Thai form (even if you enabled Asian fonts) the output won't be received correctly without setting the correct character encoding (IE explorer-> view -> encoding -> Thai (Windows).
On my system (XP multi-language) everything works perfect.... reading, writing Thai, filling in Thai forms and
typing Thai text in Photoshop (with the right fonts).

There is simply NO Thai Windows XP
What about the Windows XP they brought out just for Thailand last year? It's a no frills version that MS issued to try and cut back on piracy. It's got some limitations e.g. you can only have 3 windows open at the one time etc. Costs about 1200 baht from memory. I don't suppose it would be that version anyway because that shouldn't have any problems with Thai fonts. 
I've used the Popular Dictionary software on my WinXP 'puter before without a problem so it definitely does work. Most of the suggestions made earlier are the ones l would have made. Can't think off any others as l didn't have any issues when l used it before.

Of course I was talking about the regular initial version. Not special versions for the Thai market....
Unlike other versions of Windows (95,98, ME) there was no seperate release for the language issue.
