Have sent cds purchased here at Panthip back to the USA in the past but curious if sent via EMS is it likely customs will open either outbound or upon entry into the US?? Never hhad a problem but I recently sent some material via EMS to the states and the recepient said it was opened by customs. Just want to send some games and music cds to my kids.....any suggestions or worries. Thanks.

If the items are legit and for personal use only, then there is no problem, although you could owe import duty on them.
However, even if the stuff is not legit, US Customs is usually only looking for commercial quantities of counterfeit stuff that are imported into the US for resale. If you only ship one of each CD, they will be less likely to confiscate it. However, legally one is not allowed to bring in more than one counterfeit item at a time, and you must accompany the item upon your return to the US, rather than mailing or shipping it back. For example, you can bring back one fake watch, one fake purse, one fake CD, etc.

Even if the VCD's are legit they might not be legit....
Mostly DVDs and VCDs are only meant for 'Thai home viewing'. Importing into another 'area' is grey import and not allowed. US customs may conficate your item.
But, as Mr. Alan, said, importing one-by-one won't be a lot of a risk.

Just some food for thought on the import and export of x-rated dvd's. On my last trip I bought a handfull of Japanese labled dvd's from one of the guys that walks around Pantip first floor with just a 3x5 card in his hand. He led me to a little room behind some partitions, he was honest and gave volume discounts. Big problem is that there's no way to preview the dvd's. All I bought worked fine on my player in the States, but the shocker was that most of the girls appeared to be less than 18, even considering that most Asian girls look younger for their ages than western girls. Their ages are hard to determine from the small pictures on the jackets. But if any were played by customs, there could be a kiddy-porno rap in the making. I feel lucky my bags we're not searched at either end.

To clarify something, when traveling back to the US, if by some chance you are searched and any CD, VCD, DVD etc is deemed or found to be counterfeit, you are not "allowed" to bring it into the US, Japan and most European countries.
If you send them via mail and they are found to be pirate, they will be confiscated and you may be subject to prosecution. Porno can be even more troublesome as penalties can be even 'stiffer'!
If you buy original, legitimate copies and have receipts to document their purchase, these goods are eligible to be brought into the US for your own private use subject to no tax provided the sum of all your purchases is less than the limit (US$ 800 per person I believe).
If anyone carries a bag or box full of pirate CD's or sends them, you probably will eventually get nailed and at least in the US, the penalty can be pretty steep. The US in particular is checking luggage like mad now, not necessarily for pirate goods but for everything and a lot of carry-ons etc are getting x-rayed upon arrival.
