Hi guys, I've been trying to get in touch with a good friend (tg) in Bkk. She 's got a mobile phone Hutch.
Anyone know if its possible to call or send an SMS from Europe ? I've tried calling her with a prepaid telephone card using my own mobile but no succes.I've tried sending an SMS with my PC, I've tried various websites
seems all of them don't work. Please help me out here, I don't know what to do to reach her. All help greatly appreciated THX.

Most website that offer free sms to thailand don't work. but you can send an SMS to Hutch phones from any mobile in the world so I do not understand your problem really. You can also call a Hutch prepaid phone from outside Thailand - so I can only imagine that she either turned it off, pawned the phone (as many do) or sold it, changed the number, got a new provider, whatever. Don't you have number to her appartment? Or Email address? You can send me a private mesage with her number and I try to call her from here (i live in BKK)

BTW, Hutch is NOT GSM
it is CDMA
which is one of the reasons it sucks so badly !!

Yeah, that's also true, well, GSM did suck when it was first introduced, now it works ok, I would give Hutch a year to build up their network, GSM is the past, CDMA offers much more features once it is working reliable (it does work perfect in some other countries like Japan allready)

Thanks for the help Cyberbkk, but I got in touch with her. the phonecard I used before did not work for some reason. I called with my Gsm with normal sim card ( no prepaid) worked just fine.

correct hutch is hightech & offer datarates upto 2xx kbps or so as compared to gsm/gprs/egprs 56k-1xx or so.
not sure cdma is compatible with sms, but anyways they'll probably be the first in LOS with 3G services unless ACT 1900 gets busy with their planned 3G rollout quick!!
