Greetings, I'm about to embark on my second visit to LOS and I am contemplating taking my Laptop to connect to the Internet from my Hotel room or serviced Apartment. At home (UK) I use a National ISP. Do I need to sign up for a Thai ISP? How much should I expect to pay for calls? Basically I'm looking for the" The idiots guide to using your Laptop abroad" Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Info on pre-paid Internet http://bkkx.com/cgi-bin/forum/topic.cgi?forum=29&topic=1 If you look at the top of the screen, you will see a "Search in" drop-down box. Choose "Tech", then type a word to search for - like Internet, calls, cost, etc., and you will find all the info you need, and more. See what a good mood I'm in today.

Just check in to a serviced apartment that provides complementary internet access -then, that's all you need! Harry

If you pick a hotel that offers "high speed" internet access, all you need is a network card on your laptop (i.e. a port to accept a LAN cable) - no need to arrange your own ISP. Just hookup the LAN cable. When you open IE you should have access to the internet. On another note: the last couple of hotels I've stayed at had room safes that fit my laptop which is good for piece of mind. Something to watch out for is a lot of hotels have older style room safes at won't fit a laptop. I leave my laptop at home if possible just to have one less thing to worry about. Internet cafes are cheap and easy to find in BKK.
