Rather than do Pantip Plaza is there a place in Pattaya with software?

DrLove
There used to be a few places on Second Road (and Beach Road) which sold copy software.

Maybe our 'Pattaya' experts can update on the current situation....

But I guess, still there....

Have not seen any yet. I wonder if there is some sort of small IT mall? May try posting to the Pattaya forum.

Isee
I found as a general rule that you can buy things cheaper in bkk than ptty. I've seen plenty of people selling DVD's along beach road, but didn't see software. They were your normal street vendor not shops. If you are looking for a "Pantip" or "IT Mall" in ptty - my 2 trips of experience would say forget it.

Cheers

there is no IT mall in Pattaya, the closest one is toward Krypto-Ville in Sriracha

you can go to Software Station on 2nd road, it's on the left side of the road if you are walking toward South PTTY road from RGP

If you get to South Road, you've gone too far. There should also be some shops at the far end of Walking Street, as in far from South Road

There is a pretty good software shop about 25 metres into second road from South, on the same side as Mikes. Its small and easy to miss as its amongst the clothes shops there. Walk inside and its a small internet cafe, through the back door past the cashier into the covered market there is another door where they buzz you in, good selection of DVD's and PC software, reasonable prices and I have had no problem returning defective stuff.

Back in '02, there were a few DVD/Music, Computer and Electronics stores on 2nd road that sold software (like DrLove & Waylander mentioned). Trick was you had to ask the clerk if they had any Microsoft software and the like. Once you ask, just follow their lead. One place took me in a back area and they broke out the binders with all the covers of the software they carried. DVDs, software, sexy movies, etc. Another place pulled their binders out from behind the counter after I inquired and let me browse right out in the open. Just like at Pantip, after you order what you want, gotta wait a couple minutes while they pull the goods out from the back or wherever.

Cheers,

babaganoosh is right

but...

buying is tricky, some copies but no keys, kind of pot luck depending on what you are looking for. Some I bought were missed labeled, older version labeled as newer you know the drill.

Would take my labtop and take a look at it before I bought, if they will let you.

Frankly, I have never found anything I could not find on the web with a little work for free.

I walked by Software Station (location above) just 3 days ago

They're still doing business as usual

carson is right too

but....

need to take the whole bootleg software/DVD buying experience with a grain of salt. you get what you pay for. I too have bought some dud copies of software, even completely blank CDs (i later discovered). if you have time to test out the CDs before leaving LOS and you've discover a problem, go back and ask for another copy. done that a couple times in korat with dud DVDs I bought and never had a problem getting the issue resolved.

i too have been successful in pulling "evalution" copies of software off the Net, but think i'd rather take my chances on bootleg CDs in LOS. i've discovered more virus and trojan-laced "free" software executables on the Net these days than I have from CDs purchased in LOS.

cheers,

- B -
