for some reason I have lost the ability to save Jpegs.
if I try and save a picture from the Internet they are in Bitmap format.
now this takes up a larger amount of space as you know and I just don't know what i'm doing when it comes to the technical stuff.

i have asked this question elsewhere on the Internet and got some very complicated answers which I found hard to follow and stuff like clearing my cookies and temporary internet files.......
but nothing seems to work and i'm getting so frustrated.
any idea Guys?........thanks for any help.

You should give us more information about your OS, for example...

If you use a rencent version of Windows, you should be able to use PaintBrush and convert your BMP format in JPEG with the "save as" option. START/RUN "pbrush" Open... Save as... enter a file name and select JPEG format.

You probably have a problem with a program wrongly associated with your graphic files. You should be able to solve this problem when reinstalling your default or favorite program for graphic works (Photoshop, for example).

You can also find a freeware in order to convert your graphic formats.

Following, there is one link that you might find useful:

Hope this helps...

From what I understand you save pictures from the Web through your browser.

Try to update IE or install another browser like Opera, Firefox or Netscape and see what happens.

Well FG, you must have a recent copy yourself because it's been renamed 'Paint' for quite a while

It's in Accessories....

Sure, Doc, but you can still launch it by typing "pbrush", isn't it? For me, it's in "Accessoires" (french OS!!), but never mind...

If available, Nokna could also use Microsoft Photo Editor.

You French are so lucky! Did you know that the UK is about the only place in the world that doesn't get localised versions of any Microsoft software (operating systems or applications) ?

And Microsoft says it's down to cost! But everyone in the rest of Europe pays the same price and you all get versions in your own language.

Well, the translations are sometimes so "accurate" that most of the time, it is better to try to figure how things are called in American English!!! Especially when you have to deal with "serious" problems and need to explain the issue to an american support engineer!!!

And some bugs are due to the localisation process, believe me on that point!!!

Assuming you are using Internet Explorer/Windows, http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFAQ.htm#BMP, which itself quotes http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=810978, might provide an answer.
