Hello Thai Mobile Phone Experts!
I was wondering if there's any way I can use the internet to send a text message to folks in Thailand who have mobile phones.   I recall hearing from other folks that it's possible.  If so, what software is needed, or can you just log onto some site.  I don't even know what type of phone my friends have, just wondered if this is even possible.  I know you can do it from cell phone to cell phone.  Thanks.

There are a few sites that allow you to do it, but I wont mention them because most are either pay-sites where you have to buy credits or they limit the number of free sms that you can send daily.  However if you download and install ICQ, you can send free sms to almost anywhere in the world.

Problem is that text is limited to 140 carachters instead of 160 (cuz they add something at the end as advert). If you want send me a private message with a mobile number anywhere and I will send you a test sms from ICQ so that you see how it looks.

I am no expert on mobile phones but I know I can send short text messages to my friends here in the U.S. via regular email.  The email address for ATT phones are areacode+number@att.com.  I don't think you need a special website.

Hope this helps, but others will know more.

There are a couple of ways to do it.  First, depending on your provider in the West (US?) you can email directly from your phone.  Just need to find out what the address is on your girls phone in thailand.  It is usually something like phonenumber@provider.co.th  but you need to check.

The other way, which works well, is ICQ, but I believe that is SMS, not email.   Note that there is a difference.   There are other websites, usually not completely free, that do this too.

Lastly, you can send an SMS from your phone.  For me I can send from the US (T-Mobile) to my TG with no problem.  However, she cannot send back to me (I guess AIS doesn't let it get out?  would like to know because it is annoying).   I've heard that others can do SMS both ways...

Hope that helps..

Only works if the person to whom you are sending an sms has already registered and set it so that he/she allows it to get sms sent from the site -you can set it up so that you receive sms from anyone or only from certain people.
