Bumping this one instead of starting a new thread. Seems that I can rent a cell at the Int. arrival hall of Don Muang from Orange. After reading the other posts a lot of you recommend them over others. Just looking for a basic phone to call within Thailand. Been to DM twice but just hit the exchange, out the door to the taxi stand, and off to the hotel. So my questions: Is the arrival hall with the Orange, or other rentals, where I exchanged money and went through the crowd of people to get outside to the taxi stand? Any thoughts on the cost for 2 weeks rental? Any help is greatly appreciated.

tinytim, I may be going off track here, but if you currently own a dual/tri-band GSM cell, I'd suggest bringing it with you and getting a SIM from Orange or 1-2-Go, etc. Key thing will be to get a SIM unlock code from your cell service provider before trying to use another vendor's SIM in your phone. I have used my tri-band GSM phones (Motorola V300 and P280) in TH a number of times, using both 1-2-Go SIMs and my everyday SIM from the service provider. No problems either way, but obviously getting a local TH SIM will save you lots for in-country calling. Cheers, - B -

You can rent them at the airport, but it would probably be cheaper to buy a 2nd hand one at MBK. You get them for about 1.5-2 K Baht. In fact, you could get a brand new Nokia 1600 for 2,500 B.

Or a new Motorola C118 for 1900b, no camera and does most other things. Small and compact. Could be the phone for people who do not wish to use their main phone for secret rendevous.

Hi DT It sounds silly to rent a phone these days, can not imagine you being able to rent one for less than 1K THB and you will have to use the lenders SIM card at there rates. Also if you loose it or have it stolen the replacement cost will be astronomical, I do not know where you are from DT but here in the UK I just picked up a second hand Nokia 3310 on Ebay for £10 (18USD/ 700THB) and will buy a SIM card as soon as I can when I get back to LOS. That 40BHT deal sounds great,,, personally I keep several old Nokia 3315's, take one or two each trip and throw it to a family member or some nice gal when I leave ( usually the one of the best Buffolo story). Buy them in Aus ( Ebay ), some with minor faults and repair,, average out about 270 BHT each including battery, charger etc. Mel.
