If the drive no longer mechanically spins up, you are most likely SOL - but it depends on the mechanism. What brand is it? What model? What capacity? Sometimes (50%) there's a chance of getting it back by swapping the controller PC boards on the back of the drive, with one of identical specs. In other words, if it's just the controller hat blew, you can swap them, recover your data (do NOT keep using the drive after this trick), and put everything on a new drive. You could also try placing the mechanism in an external FireWire (or, USB) drive, and seeing if that makes any difference, and if you can then access it. Last chance is to go with a commercial drive recovery service that possibly can recover your data, but might charge roughly $2,500 US for that service. Best to always make backups of your delicate images in the future. Harry

Does it make any sounds? If so, can you describe them? like 'gggggerrrrrrish' or 'klokklokklok'?

This sounds like a very low tech solution, but I remember giving it a good thump, and my hard disk came back to live again.

I have also used this technique with success, and not just once, but many times........555
