I did try a search but too many entries so I will try this. Can I use a Nokia that I purchased here in USA and have it reconfigured in Thailand

Need more info depends on what bands it uses but most likely you can.
What model is it and you need to unlock it also - very easy with a nokia you can do it free. This is a link for unlocking Nokia phones

You need to really provide the model of the phone you are trying to use - Nokia has too many phones, and not all will work in the Pacific Rim.
For example, newer multi-media phones (Nokia 3650, 3660, etc..) are tri-band, which means they will work. Older, cheaper phones usually nly work in the country of origin.
Some carriers will unlock your phone for you (T-Mobile) other won't - as Dr.Love explained, the place to unlock any phone that can be unlocked is MBK.
