I have been researching the Board for a Good place to buy a PC and most reviews refert o Laptops (and I already have one)....

It has been now a week that I am searching the Shops and all the PC's I have seen were Junk.
I thought Asia would be more advanced than Europe and the US in terms of IT.. but it looks like it is not.

I do not want to buy from a little store in Pantip as I am sure they replaces all the Components with some Cheap Crap (Pretty much like the Cellphones in MBK)... they open them several times a day and change pieces on the inside....

Is there a Reliable store where I can buy a PC for about 30-35K with P4 3ghz, 512 RAM, 80GB disk, TFT 17" screen, Printer...?

Thanks

I never bought any IT stuff there, but there is an IT mall on Ratchada. Next to (or inside actually) Fortune Town.

The small shops in Pantip are not all doom... I have purchased quite a few PCs from these shops and they have worked for years. Actually, some of them give pretty good service too. I don't know what you talk about crappy components. But you can pick brand names (Asus, Gigabyte, Seagate) and then have them put it in for you.

But if you want to feel secure about your purchase, stick to Atec, Compaq and buy from DataIT or ITCity.

Then if something goes wrong, you will be surprised paying upto 50% more for a sticker on the front, but finding crappy service.

The IT mall you are talking about is actually inside Fortune town and I prefer that place to Pantip anyday...

Not because its cheaper, but because it appears to be amuch more enjoyable shopping experience, no prats trying to push DVD's and Porno in your face... JHMO

It's on 3 - 4th floors by Lotus/Tesco Store.

As mentioned you would probably be best of with ITCity and with a brand name.. thats if you feel like paying extra for that. I have bought several computers at Pantip, have had no problems with any of them but I always have my systems custom built.

I specify the components to be used, have it run up in front of me and I will pop the cover after to check the build has been done right (cables tied off, everything seated right, etc).

I might also mention I bought a new nokia phone at MBK very recently for less than I could have got it anywhere else. I had it checked out at the Nokia Service shop on the second floor and it's fully legit, everything original Nokia components. Only because it's cheaper it can still be good cquality, you just have to keep an eye on things.

I bought an HP Pavilion desktop system last February in Panthip from the HP shop. Works fine, no complaints, appears to be the real thing inside and out (I checked the components). The price was about the same as I'd pay for one here in the States, though I doubt the service agreement was of much value. It has a really nice HP monitor (CRT), which was one of my requirements. Sales guy was polite and helpful.

But I don't particularly like the vibe at Panthip, and I've run into a lot of impolite sales people there of late. So I may check out some of these other suggestions for future purchases (which are closer to me anyway).

Don't include the US with Europe. Although most computer parts are manufactured in Asia, they are almost all designed in the US. The only decent product ever made in France is Michelin tires, but most of those are made overseas now.

As noted, you can purchase legitimate name-brand PC's in Panthip Plaza. One must be blind not to notice the name-brand company stores there.

However, a good quality 17" flat panel LCD monitor should cost about 10K baht. The cheaper ones are not as good (especially with video and games) or may make a bit of noise. A traditional CRT may be cost effective if you are on a tight budget.

But you can definitely get a good quality PC for about 30-35K baht, with maybe a bit extra for a good quality monitor.

Also consider getting an AMD64 chip (instead of Intel). They perform very well, are a bit cheaper, and run cooler than most P4's (important in BKK). HP makes some PC's with AMD chips.

What about fries. I've heard Americans are a bit partial to them, though you'd never know it to look at them.
