I've noticed that most PC's in Thailand allow you to type in Thai script as well as English. Is there a software that is compatible to any PC and that will allow me to switch between typing Thai script & English. Do I need to buy a special keyboard or can I just use my existing one and just install the software.

It's a piece of cake on Win XP: http://www.seasite.niu.edu/Thai/maanii2/download/software/windowsXP.htm This allows you to DISPLAY and TYPE Thai characters, and switch between them with a key sequence, <alt-shift>, by default. Of course, you don't REALLY need a Thai keyboard, but if you want to KNOW what Thai character you will be typing, it's probably a good idea... Actually, for about 60 baht, you can buy stick-on key labels which have both Thai and English characters on them. MBK and Panthip have them. A Thai/English KB is cheap enough, though... hope this helps, haam sup

haam sup, Thanks for the info bro...the link you provided seems pretty detailed(to be honest I'm pretty lousy with computers but will give it a go). By the way I only have windows ME, so just wondering if it will work? Do I have to buy the software in this case? From your experience how much would the thai-einglish keyboard cost...just for me to have an idea so I don't get ripped off.

JR when you get here, this Friday (?) you could get all the software from Panthip, plus the Thai keyboard too (only a few hundred baht).

Thai- English keyboards go for as cheap as THB 200-300. Mine was THB 190 and I am still banging away on it after 1.5 years. If I remember well the Shift-Alt switch works on OS versions of Windows 98/ME Thai Edition only. For other languages like Chinese or Japanese you needed the specific version for that country. XP has a global version called XP Multi Language Version which includes almost all Eastern languages.

XP has native support for multiple languages; you can download the individual language support packages from Windows Update... Glad to know it works on 98/ME, too haam sup

BK, I arrive on 16th Oct actually and will definitely head down to Panthip....I'm keeping 17th Oct as free as I can coz I'm sure I'll need as much energy as I can conserve for the RT. HaamSup, So bascially all I need is just a Thai-English keyboard right? No need for any software?
