My internet in my servied appartment is driving me mad- its soooo slow :- (... have been thinking about asking them if I can install my own broadband. I am assuming its possible but will charge me a small fortune. What companies sell DSL here ? What is the fastest speed you can get ? 2mb ? 8mb haha  I miss my NYC speeds of 8mb!

You can get 2Mbps easily in most farang areas.
They key is to have your own direct line.
Ask your service apt to install one and if they will not, MOVE. But they should be able to. Just keep asking each fellow's boss going up the chain until someone says yes.
Cost is anywhere from 600-1200B/month unlimited international access.

regarding broadband in BKK, is there a prepaid system where you purchase access hours and use them for broad band? currently. it is only monthly, right? anyone knows of any prepaid service of any ISP?

Does anyone know of a large TRUE store near Sukumvit or Siam? I called them several times already and everytime they always says they will call me back but they never do. I am thinking the best way is to just go to one of their stores and just order it. I think they have a special right now where they waive the install charges and modem cost for a 1 year contract.

Actually the modem is not free... it's 1 baht.
But remember that the quality of True Broadband is getting worse every week.
More and more subscribers, no bandwidth expansion. Twelve months is a long time!
