I have an LG VX6100 company phone. The specs say Tri-mode 1900/800MHZ CDMA. My other phone is a two band LG, which did not work in LOS. Will this new phone work in Thailand. What do I need to do make it work?

If it does not work go to MBK cell phone floor and ask them to make it work. They can even make your vacum cleaner play ringtones while performing a blow something

I believe that phone is CDMA. All the main networks in Thailand are GSM.

So, CDMA phones will not work in LOS? Only GSM? Looks like I may have to buy a GSM phone at MBK....

I would not say that you can't use it but I wouldn't. From my research the problem is only http://www.hutch.co.th/index_en.htm offers service in CDMA. So you are stuck with only one provider, and also not the most common provider. I would suggest you buy a phone in BKK or back home (and know all the bands) before you go. The phone I bought in BKK doesn't work back at home not that I care it was so cheap. The phones I have from home will work in BKK but only on one band. In a nutshell you have CDMA - I think sometimes in different bands (I don't pay much attention) GSM 800/850/1800/1900 A quad phone would have all those bands a tri would have three. My home cell phone is a tri band 850/1800/1900 and works on 850/1900 at home and 1800 if I am in BKK. My cheap BKK phone is a 800/1800. It is a very very cheap old crappy phone. The lower the band the better signal you will get into areas with a lot of solid objects like in an elevator, underground parking lot and bar all other things considered equal Your sure bet is to buy one in BKK. bimmher

Looks like your phone is a Verizon, Like mine. I bought a motorola v551 off ebay for my Los trip next month. Not sure about your phone but I know Verizons LG VX6100. does not use a sim card. It's best to get a phone that uses uses a sim card and the required 850/1800/1900 or even GSM 800/850/1800/1900 bands. Either get one that is unlocked or you can get it unlocked there. That way all you have to do is pop in a prepaid sim card and you are good to go. Check it out. Just type "gsm unlocked" in ebay.
