Asked this question awhile back and got many suggestions but not any answers to my actual question. I want to buy a mobilephone here in Thailand and send to the US for use there as well as able to call Thailand from the US. What phones can I buy to accomplish that? Thank you from a very non tech techie.

What USA provider are you going to use? Cingular, Verizon, T-mobile, etc. all have information on their web site as to what is required. Take some time and do your research. I use Cingular (GSM 1900) in the USA. My phone is quad-band, so I can get the GSM 1800 band that DTAC uses in Thailand. Plus, make sure your phone is unlocked so you can switch SIM cards as necessary. I use a Palm Treo 650.

much easier to buy a T-mobile pay as you go Nokia phone in the USA at Target, $40-$60 it will have a 110v charger which the Thai bought one will not, then she will need to set-up a cheap way to call back to Thailand, thats what I use.... PM me if you need more info
