I have experience with both True and CSLox for ADSL connectivity at home in BKK. Forget about quality...

I agree with JJ on the quality issue but not much you can do. Depending on where you live, there may be a limit to which broadband provider you can install. Check with your building management first to see if they have contracts or relationships with providers. Buddy (shin corp) has the best prices right now as they are in promotion phase and pushing hard to get in the market. They also have IPTV (TV over the internet) which is pretty good from what I have seen and not bad price. The nice thing about having True DSL is that for a little extra cash, you can get the True HotSpot ID so if you have a laptop and like to be connected while outside, you can use True Wireless service. The price per month is pretty low and True has very good saturation in the metro BKK area. cheers

I do have BUDDY and it's ok. Only problem is the routing of the international traffic. Sometimes they do use the 'slow' connection through Malaysia and down to Singapore instead of linking through the backbone directly. That increases the latency by 100%. In such cases I establish a VPN to my office which gives me better international connectivity. Cost for basic ADSL connectivity is (was) 500 baht a month. If you go for the TV on demand thing then it is 690. TV on demand is quite nice, but the software and the remote control are crap - much to complicate.

True is the worst option of them all. Full stop. The lure of accessing their Hotspot's isn't worth the dismal reality their home service presents. I've had CSLox Info for over a year without a hitch. There were a couple of lows in bandwidth- when what I was sold didn't measure up to my bandwidth tests- but both were rectified with a single call each to the CSLox Info Tech Support Technicians. What pleased me even more was the spoken English skills of both Techies: both were quite fluent. Come to think of it, I wasn't placed on hold for too long to speak with them, either.

Well, from my professional dealing with both True and CSLox, I would say that True knows what it's doing technically and therefore it's safe to say that it willingly screws its customers and give them a bad deal, while CSLox is much more amateurish and alphazard in their operations and in this way, I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they don't screw up on purpose... That said, as long as state operators work the way they do and regulators don't open up the market, we'll have bad service at a higher cost than what is charged in developped countries. I really doubt that good quality broadband can be profitable in Thailand for a private ISP under present conditions. So, to answer the original question, take the cheapest offer, the service will be bad anyway and don't even think about getting anything close to what you would get for the same price in a lot of other contries in term of international bandwidth.

Poppycock. If that were the case there wouldn't be the several years old running problem of people sitting down at True hosted Internet Cafe terminals whence they navigate to a BKK Tonight Forum [for example] intending to login as themselves only to discover a cached prior users' login ID and password occupying the Username and Password fields we all assume will be void when bringing up the site. That is incompetence on a grand scale. A brasher IT unknown of unknowns, if you will.

And what makes you think that this is incompetence and not a choice by them (choice not to fix a minor issue with their caching which otherwise brings them countless benefits).

They can't fix it... simply too many subscribers on too little bandwidth... ========================================= So, to answer the original question, take the cheapest offer, the service will be bad anyway and don't even think about getting anything close to what you would get for the same price in a lot of other contries in term of international bandwidth. ========================================= Wrong, again. Here in the office we have TOT CyberGold 1024/512. Constant downloads (web) of 100+ Kb/s...Price 1000 baht per month. We used it for a couple of months now... connected to a LAN (four terminals) and wireless (2 terminals). Even concurrent use dowsn't slow it down...

Hmmm... That may be true (and one other person confirmed that to me just this morning), but will it last? TOT is basically selling at a loss as of now. Wait until their customer base increases and you will see the traffic shapers coming into action. Or simply wait until someone finds out how much they are loosing per month and simply put a stop to it. Plus TOT has by far the worse technical support (at least for businesses, I admittedly have not experienced it as a home user).
