Using AIS network for my mobile, there are occasions when I don't want the person I am calling to be able to have my number, eg. a BG who gives me her number, when I call it I don't want her to then have my number to call whenever she wants....in the UK you can dial a series of numbers prior to the number you are calling and this witholds your number from displaying on the receiving phone, does anyone know if this is possible with an AIS mobile ?

Don't really know how to switch off the called ID, but here is a suggestion. You could get one of those international calling cards to call your required number, and your phone number will not be shown. I have tried out the Hatari calling card. Sure, it's a little more expensive to make a local call, but at least your number won't show up.

For years this was disabled for security reasons by the mobile providers...
I just did a test on my True phone(s)...
Changed Caller ID to 'Hide Number'
When you try to call out it says 'Service unavailable'
Changed Caller ID to 'Show Number'
Normal service....
I guess this is also true for AIS....
Guess BK's answer is the only solution...

My TGF uses an international calling card (don't know which one) to call me because it is cheaper than dialing 009) and she has AIS. Her phone number shows up on my USA caller-id when she calls me.
So, if you go the international calling card route, buy a cheap one and test it out first. If it doesn't work you can sell it to BK. 5555

Curious, which company is this? And what is the procedure for calling long distance?
Actually, I tried Hatari to see if my phone number would show up. It's a 3 step process, call a BKK number, enter the 16 digit number on the card followed by the # sign, and you will hear your balance, and then dial-out the required number.

I'll ask her tonight which International Calling Card she is using, and the procedure she uses to call me.
Here in the USA using a Calling Card (88 Asia) to call Thailand, the procedure is similar to what you described. However, my phone number does not show up - which really confuses my TGF.
And, using a different SIM is certainly a solution, although switching SIM cards back and forth can be a pain on most mobiles.

AIS is the same as True, you can't turn off caller ID and make phone calls, it will deny you service
it's been that way ever since some terrorists used a mobile phone to set off a bomb in the South
