Can send SMS to just about anyone in the USA, but can only receive from T-Mobile and Cingular so far. using the +66 string. I guess something to do with certain companies not paying for the messages? Would love to be able to receive from Nextel and Verizon. Using 1-2 Call.

You won't be receiving anything from AT&T since those f_ckers seem to believe 'international' means 'Canada and Great Britain'. Their inability to supply SMS service to the rest of the world (like almost ANY carrier in the US) is the resason I dropped their ass in a heartbeat.
I now have T-Mobile and am extremely happy with their service.

Was able to receive an SMS from a friend using Verizon Wireless in USA today. They must of changed this recently. I use Verizon and was never able to send. Very nice.

only cingular and t-mobile have a digital gsm network in the US. as the rest of the world is more advanced than the stoneage US systems, of course only digital gsm nets can get digital messages from other gsm nets.
switch to t-mobile for up-to-date technology!

Just got into LA today. sent one message out with my verizon phone and nothing back yet. about 8:20am in bkk. I sent several messages back and forth from Verizon in Los Angeles to AIS (1-2-call) a couple days ago while in bkk.

The way I understand it is, SMS is a separate service and has nothing to do with GSM, TDMA or CDMA networks.. I was able to send back and forth from Verizon CDMA and 1-2-call no problem a coule days ago.
