First off.... if you want to argue that the iPhone is better, take you silly-ass comments to the iPhone thread (iDuck take note).

This thread is to discuss some other phones in the world and the cool things you can do with them.

I own a Nokia N95 because of two features, true WiFi and GPS all packaged in one instrument (yeah it has video, music, and FM radio but I do not use that crap).

The advantage of true WiFi is that when I hook to a hotspot I can call internationally for about 0.017 EUR per min on SKYPE using the Fring interface. Given the amount of time I travel this has saved me the cost of the phone several times over in long-distance charges. Additionally, I can receive eMail and surf the web wherever a hotspot is available without having to pay charges to the phone company.

The GPS is real cool too. Aside from being combined with Nokia Maps (this combination has helped me navigate safely throughout the world), I recently discovered igolfscorer and that has saved me considerable money.

Why.... well as an avid golfer I have been investigating various GPS rangefinders to help me manage a course that I am on. These devices cost between USD 250 - USD 500 to buy and you really need to subscribe to the course map service at another 45 USD per year.

However, for USD 45 you can get igolfscorer that when coupled with the GPS on your Java-enabled phone will work as a range finder, keep statistics on your game (i.e. how long you hit a particular club on that round), and download this information to the web for storage and analysis.

As any GPS rangefinder requires course input information and being a new product their database is not very large they also have the capacity on their website for you to use Google Maps to survey any golf course in the world (for which Google has terrain information) and load those courses into your phone. No stepping off courses before you play anymore.

Now if you are not a golfer there are plenty of other GPS related programs for your phone, just google for them...

I guess you are right iDuck, WiFi is WiFi unless you are a mobile phone salesman.

The one I talked to in the UK was running off the features on a phone he was trying to sell a lady friend of mine when he stated the phone had WiFi.

I suspected that was a crock so I asked if that meant that in had integrated wireless connectivity. His response "Oh, you mean true WiFi. No this gets WiFi through the <name of service provider>, not true WiFi."

Hence my use of 'true WiFi' in case any Brits were reading this .

The Nokia N95 is a fine mobile phone - I used, previously, a Nokia N73 (loved it) and a Nokia N80 (hated it). I would probably still be using Nokias, if I had not switched to a different brand that serves my particular needs better.

It's nice to see that Nokia is finally providing better Mac integration, even though their application is still in beta, I think.

I'm not particular fond of Java, on mobiles, though -- but that's just a personal preference.

nope, still lost
my blackberry has wifi - but you obviously need the physical receiver thingy inside to be able to "get" a wifi signal?

so did he mean it has the wifi thingy, or it can get a wifi signal?
i mean without the thingy (invented by americans probably) you cant get any signal anyway right?

What he meant was that you had internet access via the mobile phone's connection to its provider. The phone did not have WiFi. This means that he was either a fool or thought us fools because what he said was patently incorrect.

'Can you hear me now...'

From what I have read the Nokia N95 does very well with voip/skype.

Windows mobile just kind of sucks at doing that but I have not bothered to really try it.

I use the HTC Cruise. I also don't use the FM radio but I do sometimes use it for video. GPS works great.

There is one problem with some of the HTC products. They have a video driver problem. The HTC Cruise and HTC TyTN II both have this problem. The HTC Diamond I believe doesn't.

More info here http://www.htcclassaction.org/

Video still plays fine on the device if you use Core Player.

What moron makes a phone worth hundreds of dollars and can't be bothered to add a bloody flash so you can use the camera inside

My HTC Cruise has just about everything but a dildo built in yet no f***ing flash!!!
