Buyer beware: The Mac software shop I used to recommend on 4F has stung me twice now- sold me @#&%$* blank discs!! Bastards!
So I was in town during the New Years holiday, popped into their shop near the end of their business day and hit the airport first thing the next morning. Got back to Korea only to discover none of the discs had been burned. WTF! Chalked it up, then, to a fluke.
Well, today it's de ja vu again. Popped into their shop before 11 this AM, gave them at least 45 minutes and this evening I discover they're selling all blanks again. Bastards!
'Tis a shame, for the past several years I'd bought all my [illicit] Mac software from this shop on 4F at Panthip Plaza. The guys were always very reliable and their quality was top notch. Alas, those days are over now....
I'll try for the refund in the AM, but I ain't gonna hold my breath 
Who can recommend a new vendor of Mac software? Tomorrow's the last shopping day for Skip....

A quick visual inspection of the disc would indicate if it was a blank or if it there was some data written on it.

True... but what data and is it useful.... I have, for the most part, given up on most of these shops... you can get most of it online if you are patient... if not, the only shop I have not had issues with is the one on the M or 1st floor when you enter the bldg on the left side... it is sort of with a glass wall around it. They have been pretty good with me.

Come to think of it, I have not bought a single pirated (software or movies) disc for ages. These days, I only go to Panthip to buy blanks for backups.

Ditto. And recently I found that even the cheapest brand, Princo (170 baht for 50 blank cds) had a cheaper "budget" version, priced at 150. "What's the difference?" I ask and they couldn't explain until finally a lady in another shop tersely explained one is "A" and the other "B" -- meaning "B" not reliable.

Yes, BK, since I discovered Rapidshare (Thanks to NicFrency who posted Thai Creampie movies) and forums like warez-bb.org and avaxhome.ru, I have not bought one illegal piece of software.
And why should I if I can get almost anything for free?
Haven't bought blank CDs since a long time too, as Princo DVDs are only a tad more expensive than CD Roms (240 baht for 50) and only use them to burn movies for friends or burn ISO files.

I don't even do that anymore... with > 300 gigs of music, >200 of movies plus all my other stuff, it's just too much hassle
With HDD prices so low, it's easy to get a couple of 1 or 1.5 Ts, slap them in a toaster, back up, remove and viola... off site backup 
I keep a few blanks around if friends want something but even then it usually goes on a thumb drive....
