Need some help.

I have a TELSTRA (Australian) mobile phone on Global Roaming system. When I use it in Thailand it is still on Raoming, and links up with ThaiGSM sytem as most digital roaming syste do . It works well in Bkk, that not the issue

Question:  When I use my mobile from within Thailand,(Bkk) and ring a certain Thai lady (in Bkk) on her mobile phone in (Bkk) , does anyone know what number or symbol, if any shows up on her mobile screen.

Does a number show upn her screen as(001 61....) or does some other symbol/indication come up on her screen to indicate its an International Call.

CANT AFFORD FOR IT TO SHOW UP ON HER SCREEN AS A LOCAL CALL FROM WITHIN THAILAND, or I will wake up minus part of my anatomy, one day.

When I called a TG from my mobile when I was in BKK, my number showed on her phone as calling from UK, that is starting with the international +44. I assumed this was 'cos I was using my UK mobile on roaming.

I'm not absolutely sure what will happen to you. Maybe others can help more.

well, i have a different experience. when i use my roaming mobile in BKK to make a local number, the other party phone reflects a local number, and on occassion when i'm using a different Thai mobile network (due to auto roaming) i could receive calls indicatiing the callers'  number which is from Singapore, Hong Kong.

i conclude that its the local network that your mobile is using, which provides different coverage. i hope this info is useful!

it is pretty simple. when you are locked in the ais system with your roaming phone and arec alling somebody inthailand who has an ais phone it will show your number. in case you are in ais but call somebody with an orange or dtac number it will only show the server or switchboard number of ais (so not you foreign number). this way you can decide wether to show your number or not. if you do not want somebody with an ais number to see your number just preselect dtac then!
the only problem is you will have to know what system the peson you want to call is using!

Thank guys, but it sounds like I have to do a test run when I get there in 2 weeks and hope for the best. That is a test using my phone and on someone elses.
Or find someone on a Telstra Global Roaming System, currently in Thailand.

More that likely it will be the same as the UK system and 00161.. will show up on hers.

Once before I used a Swisscom system and it does not show any numbers when it rings the other party, in Thai land.
This might help someone else with my predicament. Problem is you can buy Swisscom in thailand, even though it works there.

I know my phone will be roaming on Thai GSM and hers on AIS.

I will let you know the outcome and whether I am still in one piece in a month or so.

Bloody mobile phones are worst that a global tracking system

CraigOZ, you didn't really say what you wanted to do.  Did you want to call your Thai girlfriend and tell her that you are still back home? (so you can have some fun with someone else)  Or did you want her to be able to save your phone number to her phone?  If you want to do the second you could pick up a 1-2-Call chip that only works in Thailand.  If you want to do the first, you can usually disable the function that shows your number via the phone's menu.  You may even want to do this for a while before you go so that she get's used to not seeing your phone #.

If you can be a little more specific on what you want as an end result there's almost certainly someone here who's done it.

If she has your number in her address book, of course it will show up, - nowdays some overseas calls are diverted thru Thai mobile numbers, - but of course not when you are in the country. Also on Thai system, if you try to put sender ID off, the phone will not work ...  - you can always by a cheap local pre-pay mobile in MBK, [ or just the sim card ] cost you about $200 Aus. including a couple of hours of calls.

Ok sorry and I will clarify

seubeu its the first option. I am not worried about money, just loosing part of my anatomy while I sleep, but this is the phone

1 I live in Seoul and they use the CDMS system, so when I ring her from here(on my Korean phone) , no munber shows un on her screen. Simple and she knows I am in Korea. No number on her screen means I busy working in this shithole.

The phones from Korea dont work within a GSM system so when I visit Bkk,  I have to revert to my other motorola phone (V3688) on global roaming (Telstra) when I am roaming. Or Nokia(8850)

2 When in Bkk I have no option but to use the Telstra GSM or another GSM chip (in a motorola V3688 - dual band) and find a way not to show the number at her recieving end. (She is just around the corner)

3 Yes the motorola V 3688 does have a disable sender ID function. I have not tried to use this function yet in Bkk and Thaiprivateeye suggests if I do, then the International Roaming system may not work on ThaiGSM.

Thai privateeye , you might tell me how you know this and what phone and GSM was involved.???

MY DELEMA IS TO FIND THE RIGHT GSM CHIP TO USE IN THE MOTOROLA THAT INTERFACES WITH THAI GSM BUT DOES NOT SHOW UP A NUMBER ON THE RECIEVING PHONE WHEN IN THE SAME COUNTRY ( I think Swisscom may be a good option) OR
BE ABLE TO DISABLE THE SENDER ID  IN THE MOTOROLA  AND STILL HAVE THE PHONE WORK ON ROAMING!!!!

4 Thaiprivateeye. please tell me more about the local prepay systems (as I have a Nokia 8850, tri band and a prepaid chip, both bought from MBK. I thought this wopuld simply show up a local number on call on her screen. Maybe not or maybe I can get a Dtac one to insert in the Nokia???

- dont really know whats going on locally now C-oz, somebody obviously wrorting the system - but as i mentioned, often I get overseas calls on my local [ AIS monthly a/c.] phone, that will sometimes show the full number, country code etc - and other times a thai mobile number comes up - ??   You can not call back/get a reply to this number, it is some type of divert system. Likewise I do get/can make calls using on overseas phone on auto-roam, - and get a blank screen, but just wouldnt guarantee this happens all the time, Guess you just have to be like most smart TGs, have a mobile phone for each customer ... of course they have an advantage, they dont have to pay the bill !!
